Don't lgfl offer Moodle to all schools? try this link here

Just had a look at this myself and wondered if there was a way to upload a bunch of users from a database, as we don't have a login for staff?

I feel that this is a more deeply philosophical question than some of us suspect. It calls to mind Schrödinger's cat; is it dead, or is it still alive? I'm feeling in a particularly mean mood this morning.

Can someone direct me to the link (I think it's on the BECTA site) which states that you don't have to go with the VLE specified by the managed service provider, please?

Why don't you, TonyJF and leco collaborate on this and then share your best practice with the rest of the community?

I bought the 26" version about a month ago and I'm happy with what I got for the money. This is my first LCD tv. The sound quality is not hifi, but for someone with tinnitus like myself there is enough clarity of sound for me not to have to turn the volume up too much to catch all that's going on. The picture quality is above average and the colours look natural. The beauty of the design is its simplicity, which I found carried over to setting up the tv and the on screen instructions. HTH

I hate to do this to ssiruuk2, but if you follow this link you'll see what happens without planning change management. It's not about the technology but the people who use it, and I can wholeheartedly agree with those who say that you should stage it. If you're lucky, or skillfully select a group to roll out the upgraded laptops to, you may find you have a pool of "champions", those who can see the benefits and will share and promote the technology amongst their peers.

Contact yout local council they may well have a data protection officer, even if your school doesn't.

Go to Extensions>Module Manager>New Module and select JEvents Calendar. Please note that you should have created your JEvents Category beforehand so that you can select it from Specified Category in the Parameters>Module Parameters section (right hand side column). You can set the visibility and position from the Details Parameters section on the left.

I think this is the stand alone version of MRBS not the version which integrates with Moodle?

This may not be what you're looking for, or you may find it a little blinkered in that it only deals with Moodle, but if you visit this link you should find a list of schools using er, Moodle, which is a type of VLE. You'll have the ability to visit the various VLE's and, I see, also to email them. I'm not advocating Moodle above any other VLE just seeking to help you with your inquiry.

A couple of years ago I had a meeting with two Northgate high ups and they were very positive about what they wanted to do in school and how they were going to achieve it, e.g. by leaving the technicians who know the school (this includes staff and pupils) in school to handle the problems. I don't know how the current economic downturn is affecting this outlook.

Talking from personal experience, most of the staff at the school where I work as an IT technician didn't have a clue what a VLE was when I brought up the subject in 2005/06, and SLT for the most part still have a vague notion of what can be achieved. I may not be able to extrapolate my own experience across the whole of the secondary sector, but from the posts on here I don't feel as if I'm alone in thinking this. As a consequence, the change management was handled by me, and the VLE is now embedded in school life to such an extent that when the head presented SLT priorities for the coming year the VLE was at the top. On the contrary, the push comes from the grassroots, the end users, the pupils. In our school I'd helped set up a Photography course online, and with some bought in material we introduced the VLE to ICTAC staff before the summer break in 2008, hoping they would feed back to their faculties. There was an intensive month's training when school re-opened in September, and then the pupils were given sight of it in October. It wasn't until staff were being pestered by their charges, "Sir, why haven't you put anything on the VLE?" that the amount of work put forward, and interest in the VLE began to rise. Who provides the material for the VLE then? Some folk call this doing your research. Schools may be required to have a VLE, but taking the first one that comes along is not a good idea and can lead to both time and money being wasted. In my experience, and it seems from contributors to these forums, running a VLE is often thrust on the IT technician; is it any wonder they procrastinate "about products and things they have to do"? It's not my intention to rubbish any group here, or in school, we often feel as if we're the only put upon party in an organization whether we're teachers, technicians, admin staff or pupils.

Spot on. At the moment I sit in school applying different tactics to get staff using our VLE, but once a managed service becomes a reality will there be room for such a person?

As an aside we were in the south of France earlier this year and visited a vineyard for a tour and tasting, part of the tour took us to the vineyard chapel, where the guide pointed out a carved shield set in to the chapel wall saying that it was the shield of the Knights Templar. As the vineyard was called Chateau Sainte-Roseline and my wife is a big Dan Brown fan you can imagine the conversation (one sided) for the next half hour.
