...but have just realized that I've woken up an hour early.

Had the same at home this morning. Site slow to load, not loading css etc. Same in school tho' seems to be behaving now.

After restarting IIS, then the server, but with no effect on the opening page of MRBS, I noticed the link to MRBS on the front page of our Moodle wasn't actually a link to the current date page but to a specific date, i.e. 17th January.

For some reason when users go to the MRBS booking page from our Moodle it now always opens on the 17th January, which as you can imagine is causing some confusion as before that it always opened on the current date. I haven't made any changes to any file that I can recall. Has anyone else come across this?

The file I changed is config.inc.php in the MRBS blocks folder; i.e. Blocks>MRBS>web. These are the changes I made to the code # Define the name or description for your periods in chronological order # For example: # $periods[] = "Period 1" # $periods[] = "Period 2" # ... # or # $periods[] = "09:15 - 09:50" # $periods[] = "09:55 - 10:35" # ... # is used to ensure that the name or description is not wrapped # when the browser determines the column widths to use in day and week # views $periods[] = "Period 1 08:30 - 09:30"; $periods[] = "Period 2 09:30 - 10.25"; $periods[] = " "; $periods[] = " "; $periods[] = "Period 3 11:00 - 12:00"; $periods[] = "Period 4 12:00 - 13:00"; $periods[] = " "; $periods[] = "Period 5 13:45 - 14:45"; #$periods[] = "Period 9"; #$periods[] = "Period 10"; #$periods[] = "Period 11"; #$periods[] = "Period 12"; Some of the periods above may appear to contain nothing more than a non-breaking space, but this allows me to add the details of these periods via the GUI. Following the premise that there’s no such thing as a free lunch, Moodle will have a financial cost. Have it hosted remotely and there’s an obvious cost, though Moodle should be kept up to date with any security holes plugged and data backed up. Host it yourself and there’s the cost of a server and someone to maintain it and the Moodle software. Moodle can easily handle 2000 people; I believe some universities have over 25000 users. The crux of the matter here is can your server(s) handle this number of users? I recommend you ask/search on the Moodle forums to get an idea of what others use. An eportfolio system which comes highly recommended is Mahara and this can be integrated with Moodle. It has the advantage of being free, but don’t forget the upkeep. There’s also an Individual Learning Plan available from ULCC (University of London Computer Centre). Moodle offers blogs, forums, and wikis as part of its core modules. There are several plugins which allow you to add videos, podcasts, and the like. You can customise user areas but you’ll probably need some knowledge of css. Moodle support can be hit and miss if you simply rely on the Moodle forums, as a lot of the time you’re relying on people freely giving of their own time, though as most of these folk are Moodle “evangelists” you won’t have long to wait for an answer. Moodle also licenses “Partners” which provide paid for support. Again, you can check the Moodle website to find the nearest to you. We run ours on a virtual server.

I completed the Learning, Technology & Research (now called Learning Through Technology) degree at Anglia Ruskin University in December 2009. It is part-time, i.e. a 3 year course which you completed around your full time job, though others joined the course part way through as they's taken time out for one reason or another. I see they now have a part time option, whether this means you can take longer to complete it, I don't know. I found it hard going doing it after a full days work, and by the final term I was completely knackered, but now I've had a year's break I'm considering the MA. Edit: I had to fund myself

With over 30,000 members and new folk joining on a daily basis, almost 68,000 threads and over 617,000 replies, you're bound to get this problem. Folk new to educational IT, those who have found a fresh way to accomplish a previously posted older task may feel that it needs to be added to an older post in order to see in context/development. Webman's idea is good, but the point of being able to search and view older threads is that Edugeek is a great source of knowledge, covering a wide areas of expertise.

Thanks for giving a little more detail, that's what we're looking for as we've really only just decided that's what we'll do. We are planning to push the boat out for this trip after a few years of relative austerity paying off our daughters' university fees, living expenses etc. I did camping once and it's not for me to be honest. Having visited the States a few times I've a good idea of the scale of the continent, and also that there are bears and wolves to contend with, depending on where you are. We'll be getting some maps together over Christmas to look at the territory in more detail, and all feedback is gratefully received and added to the equation.
