Had a similar problem with OxBox Maths and our Moodle VLE. Despite hosting it ourselves and being able to go directly to the server and insert the cdrom to upload the SCORM package, Moodle simply died trying to unpack it. After many emails backwards and forwards the package was split into separate units and I was able to download these from their site. They would have sent them to me on cdrom had I so desired. This did the trick, though it was time consuming going through each individual package. As sjatkn said, quote the ISBN number and they'll get the individual packages sorted, though by now I should imagine they've had so many requests for this that they'll all be ready and waiting. In my case I emailed my complaint in the morning, and after some sparring was directed to an ftp site by the afternoon.

I've used OpenHive, and it's not necessarily cloud based, you could have it on your own server, but I have no idea of costs. Built on Sharepoint it's very good at handling documents. Creating courses in OpenHive is about as difficult as doing the same in Moodle, though the teachers I sat with who were used to using Moodle didn't agree with that. The front end, and the front end 'back end' if you get my drift, of the version I used wasn't of good design as far as I was concerned. The way a 'course' was laid out for the pupil wasn't intuitive, but again, this could simply be down to the way the front end was designed. We currently use Moodle at our school, and have done ever since the concept of a VLE/Learning Platform was introduced to the school. Some four years after unveiling it to staff and pupils there is still a lot of learning to do to get the best out of the system. Sharepoint offers manifold ways to deal with documents, and if used properly can cut costs simply by saving on paper. There are several threads regarding Uniservity, which may have changed its name to Life. You can find the most recent here. I attended a demonstration several years ago, and to be perfectly honest it looked so poorly designed that it was a complete turn-off, even before getting in to the nuts and bolts of it.

The Regulations make clear that UK businesses and organisations running websites in the UK need to get consent from visitors to their websites in order to store cookies on users’ computers." Will apply to schools. In preparation for this, does anyone know how to disable cookies in joomla 1.5/1.6?

I may be misreading what you're saying, but if you look at a real noticeboard you'll see that individual items don't align. The web does shiny very well, the natural is a little more difficult. I think it looks good so far.

Thank you all for your replies. My question came about because of a comment from my line manager because of some major budgeting juggling before the new school term begins in September. We have to ask ourselves (and I'm sure this is going on at schools up and down the country) what is essential and what is desirable [at some unspecified date]. Our OFSTED inspection last September noted several outstanding features, and apart from one satisfactory, all the rest were good, so I don't expect we'll be visited again soon, and this gives us a little time to play with. From a personal point of view I would have liked to have the sort of access to my daughters' progress when they were school age, which can be made available now. Just because this has moved down the agenda somewhat, not providing parental engagement would, in my eyes, be seen as offering the bare minimum.

As the title says, has there been any movement on this by the new government? Has the requirement been dropped or put on the back burner? Just read this back (fighting a migraine) and it doesn't make sense. What I mean is are schools still required to give parents online access to things such as grades, attendance etc?

I use Front End Font Size Adjuster by Florida Web host, which also appears to have have been discontinued. It did once work with %, px and pt, but for some reason is now broken. It adjusts the line spacing but nothing else.

I think it delivers relevant information in an easily accessible format. The design/look may not be bang up to date, but it probably fulfills the criteria OFSTED are looking for in a school website, which is to inform.
