Try reducing the refresh rate - 100Hz sounds a bit high, especially for a projector. Most TFT's and Projectors seem to like 70 or 75Hz. Might be worth a try.

I've still got one of those at home! As far as I know, it still works. That was the first computer I ever used properly - had an old tape based Atari 800 for games before that, but the ST was my first experience of word processors. 1 ST Word - what crap that was really!

Do yourself a favour - get the bigger engine! I just upgraded from a 1.2 old-style Clio to a 1.4 New Clio - the 1.4 costs quite a bit more than the 1.2, and tax and petrol is more, but the extra power is worth it. As far as I can see, the bottom engine rating in most models is pushing it if you want to move much faster than a milk float.

Well, well, well. I really didn't expect to provoke such reaction when I posted my comments this morning! However, whilst I agree that the new design is a good, strong logo, I stand by my feeling that it is not really the right direction for EduGeek as it stands today. I guess my biggest problem is, as others have mentioned, with the horns - it is a little awkward for those of us in Church schools... I just feel that if we are to continue being taken seriously by the powers that be, we need to project a sensible, business-like and professional image. The logo looks too much like the image of a gamers site, or perhaps a hackers hang-out. Sorry to have stirred up a hornets nest, but I think these are important issues. All the best, Chris

Sorry to be critical, but I prefer the existing logo. To be honest, I think the original better suits a 'professional' image, if that is what we are trying to portray. The new design is a nice logo, but I'm not convinced it suits a professionally-oriented site.

I locked our supplies away in a cupboard so that people couldn't use them! The HT had bought memory sticks for everyone so I figured they should be using those, and I was sick of people coming to me to recover data which they had lost from floppies.

Basically, it takes very little notice of the pen. Any pen for that matter. You can get an occasional squiggle out of it, but it spikes like mad and just doesn't work most of the time :?

Does anybody know where to find the serial number of a Promethean Activboard? We've been looking all around and can't find any labels, so reckon it must be on the back! We have a hardware problem and need the actual board serial number and not the software code. Thanks

Yeah, they're rubbish You get what you pay for. Again, seconded. They're crap. The software is flaky as hell, the access is quite slow and my one overheated the drive to such an extent that it smelled of burning when you opened the case 8O It lasted less than a week with me before being despatched back from whence it came!

In that case, don't try teacher training then. No offence, but under those circumstances you wouldn't make it. I've been through it, and you need super dedication and a very strong resolve to make it through the inevitable low times. You need to be adamant enough that teaching is what you want to stick it out through situations like those that finished me - a placement in a very troubled school, with no support. I reckon, like me, what you want is a Network Manager role. It depends really whether you prefer having a screwdriver in your hand, or a piece of chalk.

I know Wes has now solved his issue, but for anyone else: If you only need to print the document, use PDFCreator to 'print' the document into an A2 PDF, then use Adobe Reader to print it out, scaling it to A4 size at the print stage. I've done this before to rescue a document. Chris

Another question for the edugeek geniuses from my new school with the confusing network... Is there a simple, painless way to move away from roaming profiles. I am getting far too many complaints from teachers waiting ages for profiles of nearly 1GB to download over naff wireless connections when they log on. In my opinion, wherever and however you log on, it takes far too long and I would like to stop using roaming profiles and use folder redirection and Group Policy to control things. The network was setup before I arrived and I'm having trouble figuring out how and why some things were done! Is it possible to make the switch easily, or would I be better taking a long, deep breath and starting over again with a new domain on the new server we have waiting to be used? I'm thinking of using LNM to acheive this, considering I am only at that school one day a week. A silly question as a side note, can an XP PC be attached to more than one domain? Cheers, Chris.

I wouldn't go for Novatech notebooks personally - they don't so much make their laptops as assemble them, they're all based on third-party chassis. I'd always recommend going for a recognised well known quality branded machine which has been designed and built as one unit by one company. Just my personal choice.

Yeah, that's easy. Getting it to open that data again is a completely different story of course. Horrible, horrible program to administer.

And in my experience, in practice, it means nothing. Maybe for teachers, yes, but not for us. A number of my schools are 'Investors in People' and I haven't had a single training, development or progression opportunity in the year I've been doing this. Other staff get CPD meetings and discussions about progress etc, but not me.

@WITCH: Google for a program called Magical Jellybean Keyfinder - you might need to do it at home or on a non-filtered connection - West Sussex certainly block it. This is a super little program, though, which can extract the licence keys for Windows and Office from pretty much any machine. It'll also let you change keys if you feel the need, although I've a feeling that is naughty in most cases.
