I know nothing about Acorns really, but my guess (and it is a guess) would be a memory issue. Otherwise, do Acorn programs have anything similar to ini files or a registry? Maybe some support library or program not being started?? Sorry, not much help I know

Well, I have an update on this: after much pushing, shoving and head scratching, I managed to get it safely into the bracket with just the two remaining arms. Why I couldn't get it in early, I don't know, but I'm just pleased its in there now! Job saved for another day! Sorry, forgot to mention that we have been in touch with the suppliers and they can't supply the part on its own and say we would have to buy a whole new bracket at over £125!

One of my schools has (quite rightly) decided that with projectors now being cheaper to buy than the lamps for older models it makes more sense to replace the projector. However, this plan only works if the new model fits the old mount!! :oops: So, as a result of a bit of a mistake, I am now desperately seeking a spare bit for a Medium Universal Projector Mount - like the one here: http://www.medium.co.uk/public/APP.ASP?PT=POP&PG=PD&EK=380&VW=0# The bit we need is one of the little metal supporting bars (loopy bit) that you can see sticking out of the round pressure plate at the bottom in the above picture. I have also attached a hopeless drawing I made of the part to this post! If anyone has any ideas where we might be able to get hold of something like this, or perhaps has one in a junk pile they wouldn't mind letting me have, you would really be saving my bacon! could you expand on what you mean by matching the distance to the equipment being used ? He means use equipment with a specified distance near to the length of cable being used: for example, he is suggesting that for a cable run of 45m, it may be better to use the 50m unit than the 100m unit.

Don't forget that a tape drive capable of backing up almost 300Gb of data on one tape with space to spare is going to cost quite a whack of money! Also, I don't think NTBACKUP works with compression - at least, I can't get it to. I've been looking at solutions for nearly 250Gb of important stuff at home (photographs etc) and for tape I'd be looking at very little change (if any) from £1k!

I've got several of these laptops which as unloved - sadly, they are still in service (just!) and I can't get rid of them or any of their bits! Seriously though, I'd think twice before spending big bucks on a new PSU - ours are starting to become troublesome and I wouldn't expect them to remain servicable for that much longer. I'm already decomissioning them if they develop anything other than a minor fault.

Yeah, and while you're at it, if anyone has got a Ferrari going spare, I'd take that off your hands...

One of my schools (primary) has a website set up like this by my predecessor and they want to get rid of it because they say its too inflexible and too difficult to add things to it! IMHO, for a primary, the Frontpage approach works well for their needs.

Hi All, I have been asked my the admin staff at one of my schools to try and get a shared calendar set up for them, being shared between the Head, Bursar and Secretary, each on individual PCs. One essential feature needs to be that it is either free or low cost - thus putting Exchange out! Actually, for other reasons I don't want to use Exchange anyway. Just wondering if anyone is using anything similar? I would prefer to go with as simple a solution as possible and would struggle with anything that would need major server-side work - for example, I can't use an Apache/MySQL/PHP type of solution - basically because the only server available is controlled by the LEA and we're not allowed to do much to it. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Chris

I'm not going to make any comments on locations. The last time I complained that our LA Techs group always have their meetings in the North-East of the county (I'm about as far South-West as you can go and still be in the county!) , I was very nearly ex-communicated - or should that be exterminated! Needless to say, I wasn't popular and so I keep quiet now

Strictly speaking, I don't think this is allowed. Having said that, in reality, I'm sure a great many people do it and I can't see it being a problem as long as it isn't an attempt at piracy (which in your case it obviously wouldn't be.) However, I am not a lawyer, and to be on the safe side you should probably check with someone with more legal knowledge than me!

My notice is 8 weeks - stipulated according to pay scale, and I am just in the bracket that has to give 8 weeks not 4 I see it as a huge millstone - as people have said, no-one will want to wait 2 months. You can almost see the interest in your application fade when you answer that question at interviews. I've been trying to move on, and I'm not getting anywhere - and I feel that the notice period is a major factor in that. But I signed the contract with those terms so I can't really grumble I suppose.

Hi all, Has anyone here got any comments they'd be willing to share about working in the Independent sector? How is generally different to the state sector? I'm being interviewed for a job at an Independent school on Monday and I'm trying to get a feel for the sort of things I should be aware of. If they're new ports that you didn't put in yourself, I'd recommend popping the faceplates off and checking the wiring has been done correctly. I came across one last week where a port had been 'installed' - one end of the lead was left dangling in the wiring cabinet because they didn't know where it had to go, and on inspecting the supposedly terminated end, only about 2 of the terminals had been punched down! I have found over the last year that if something doesn't work, especially if you didn't do it, never assume that whoever did it has done it properly - whoever they may be!

Not if you burn it onto a CD-RW, then re-import it into Windows Media Player as an unprotected WMA or MP3 ;-)

I really didn't like the draft, but I'll have to agree with FN, I think the new one is worse. It really isn't professional - I find it hard to believe that a 'design professional' gets away with producing output like that. I suppose my idea of good design must be a bit outdated? I re-iterate what I said last time around, though, about having a professional and respectable image if we want to be taken seriously. These logos seem to me to be giving a similar image to turning up to an important meeting wearing a 'death metal' T-Shirt and ripped jeans.
