This has been done but it's too complicated apparently for the supply teacher to log in and then navigate SIMS to get to the registration group.

Sorry for posting this here but a) I'm not sure where to put it and b) this forum probably has the most readers so I'll get a quicker answer. What is the collective opinion here: We have a member of staff who is away on long term sick leave. I've been asked to reset that persons SIMS password and to then give that password to the covering supply teacher to facilitate said supply teacher's access. Is there any rights issue about doing this? If the HT authorises it am I covered? Opinions please.

Good advice this. I always sweep it all off with a broom before it freezes. Takes only two minutes or so and makes the next morning so much easier.

Just been watching a woman trying to sort out her car. It's parked just outside my office window and it's obviously been there for a couple of days judging by the amount of frozen snow on the roof / bonnet / windscreen. Funnily enough the rear and side windows are mainly clear of snow but the windscreen has a good 2" layer of obviously frozen snow. She's now spent the best part of 20 minutes and she still hasn't moved her car. It went like this: Wander over to car and stare in horror at the snow for a minute or so. Faf about inside car for a couple of minutes, eventually emerging with a family size de-icer aerosol and a scraper. Start engine and switch on wipers, which don't move because they're obviously frozen to the screen. I didn't see her actually do this but it became apparent later. Prod at snow on windscreen for about 10 seconds, then decide it's too cold / too difficult for this. [intermission - she's still there! ] Spray de-icer for about ten seconds until, suddenly the wipers spring free (this is where I realized she'd already turned them on and left them to burn the motor out!). She then sits back in car, occasionally revving engine, whilst the wiper blades get sliced to ribbons on the rock-like ice. I could hear them being sanded away through my closed office window. Occasionally lean out of window to spray de-icer in 2-second bursts. She's just moved off - 24 minutes in total - with wipers still going nineteen to the dozen, windscreen still half covered in ice and a 2" thick border of frozen snow outlining the wiper arcs. Her forward visibility must be shite! Two minutes with the scraper would have cleared it completely but, oh no, way too much trouble for this lady!!

But that only covers the windscreen. You need ALL the windows clear. Link seems OK now.

Has no-one heard of car covers, or semi-covers that cover the cabin area? Two minutes to cover the car in the evening then in the morning, hey-presto - no frosty windows! People who drive without ALL of their car windows and mirrors being COMPLETELY CLEAR should be prosecuted for dangerous driving IMHO! Simples!

We need to allow access to Latest news, comment and reviews from the Guardian | guardian.co.uk through our SonicWall firewall. Every time we try it comes up with multiple page errors. If we bypass the firewall altogether it's perfectly fine. Anyone know of any particular issues with the Guardian site either directly or any interaction with SonicWall's filtering algorithms?

I was afraid that might be the case. The user is making statements that are probably libellous and defamatory. I don't think the police would be interested. We've tried asking for details and tried to strike up a dialogue but to no avail. Trying to trace the user is a bit of a last resort.

Good morning Happy New Year to everyone. Not sure where to ask this question so I put it here. Our head is receiving really nasty emails from a user purporting to be a parent but the username is not a name that we know. He / she is using a live.com address. Is there a way of tracing this user, or raising an issue with MS?

This may be tongue in cheek but if not then I assume the insurance company will want it, or at least want to look at it.

I don't think a heavy set of rules is needed, but maybe something like this which is displayed above the text entry box prior to any post on another forum. Clear, simple and adequate.

Exactly what my comment would have been This is why my GPS has taken over such duties. I still carry the map though, I refuse to rely on anything electrical!

I still carry map and compass but increasingly I find that the MM / GPS is simply more convenient, especially on a windswept hillside when keeping hold of a paper map is a little troublesome

The only really useful GPS compatible mapping system for off-tarmac use is Memory Map and the mobile version only works on WinMo devices which is a PITA. It means that I have to carry my Hero and my old TyTynII when I'm out MTB'ing - the TyTyn runs my MM nav. If you have a primary need for good off-road mapping then it has to be WinMo + Memory Map IMHO.
