  1. Cheers Pete! Worked very very well! shall be keeping this little util for future use! as we are giving more teachers memory sticks this problem is becoming more common. Regards Robert
  2. Hey Guys and Gals! One of the teachers has corrupted their USB memory stick, does anyone know of a free program to recovery it. I found one that searched it the drive and found the files but want $45 to recover and as were a school were tight! lol Cheers Peeps Roberto
  3. Well just got back, checked me e-mails and check the gateway and it appears to be working so hopefully that is true of our web access soon found tomorrow as i walk in with staff badgering me about why isn't working. or there usual line if anything is wrong they ring up saying the server is down! lol funny really because when i look over my monitor the servers appear to be running normally and i'm having no problems! The best one we had the other day was a teacher rang up saying the projector has gone all green the bulb is on its way out. So i walk go straight to the wall socket (that has been damaged by a teacher on a chair!) push it in the slight and bingo i've managed to fix the bulb! lol ttfn Robert
  4. Could well be! ah well it was annoying for me i was creating some training on the gateway, but it annoyed the Bursar even more when she said she had to get the ema payments in tonight at the latest. She didn't take too kindly to me suggesting that perhaps it could have been scheduled ealier! lol If its still down tomorrow the kids and staff shall be having a nice moan! for some reason IT lesson and net access go hand in hand. In my day (only 3yrs ago lol) we hardly used the internet in IT lessons (expect general sufing when the teacher wasn't looking lol) in comparison. Although it does mean that access to EduGeek and The Register will be limited! Robert!
  5. Just got home from work where at ten to five this evening our EMBC connection has gone down! well i can recieved my freeserve e-mail and radio1 was streaming but access to any web page, the gateway and e-mail was totally down. I tried rininig EMBC helpdesk and all i got was the BT pre-recorded lady saying "This number is temporarily out of order". Then I tried Dot ICT but there helpdesk closes at 4:30! Now I'm home I can't get on to the Gateway and our website is down Anyone else experiecne problems? Regards Robert!
  6. We had this problem before the summer hols, however we have Lan Ranger and used a simple title check. However we did come accross a problem recently when lessons required the use of web query. However with simple communication between staff and ourselves it was soon solved and we released this for certain years at certian times! Robert!!
  7. webman thats going to be really handy! now i can just run that instead of telling the teachers the real reason then having to deal with a buffer over run error and wait for them to reset! lol Robert!
  8. Just a quick note, don't know if it is relevent and you can tell me where to go! lol But is there any room for expansion going to be built into this projection for storage needs? Robert!
  9. Hi, We recently recieved just over 200 powermate ml250's. And I've not been impressed with the quality, from are inital batch we've had over 10% with the name onboard network problem. Where the network card just fails, the warrenty is good. Next business day and they've have come out and replaced the faulty motherboards. But over 10% from one batch in my eyes is totally unacceptable. My 2 pence worth! Robert!
  10. Grommit, thats a good idea. We have that set-up and use AD and Ranger together to lock our system down and has proven to be successful. Teachers do moan now-and-then about but we're still getting to grips to W2k3 having moved from NT4 so with their help were ironing out the bugs. Quota enforcer is a good tool and flags up and annoying window that can't be moved or minimized by the user, forcing them to click the explore button and delete/move files. But this does not stop the user saving more data to their home drives so no work is lost. Anyways my 2pence worth! lol Robert! (Skive hard play hard!)
  11. HI Guys and Gals! Thought I'd better introduce myself! i've been reading all posts and learning a lot. My name is Robert, just come out of uni. I studied a BA in Business Entrepreneurship. I'm currently working at Ise Community College in Kettering, Northamptonshire (Were a secondary school!). I use to attend the school and helped the IT technicans over several summers! I have returned with the opportunity to implementing a new project! which is really cool. Its all about training for staff and implementing new ideas such as school wide e-mail and researching VLE's. I've created the project from scratch so its my little baby lol. anyways...I'm self taught with a lot of help from current IT technicans and messing around at home. Our current set up is 2 domains, office and curric. DotICT work with our office network (and the bursar likes to take control of that!mmmm) and we look after the curric with 3 2k3 servers and xp clients! with AD and Ranger. I'm also a weekend manager a Currys.Digital or Dixons as people still call it! lol Robert!
  12. I work for Currys.Digital as a weekend manager (I know currys/dixons/pc world. Some of us to actually offer customer service lol), the iRivers are really good. Last year we had some on offer and they were cracking bits of kit, we had a lot people who didn't own a PC buy one and they used their stereo to copy CD's onto the unit. I had one guy who needed showing how to use it, and once i showed him and made notes he was able to use and has not been back with a problem. We do sell some newer models but these DO NOT have line in functions, and i haven't seen any for a while. I'm back in store Saturday so can look on the system to see if there are any bargins around? Robert!
  13. At my place we place an Environmental Variable called location on the pcs and as the value we put the room name/number. During login the logon batch file calls a seperate printers one, checks the variable and installs the correct printer or printers and sets the default one for us. Robert
  14. Hi, I found this on one of our network shares the other day. I thought one of the kids had the idea to put this flash game in to an Excel document, now i know they've downloaded it! Last term we had the problem with students using Excel and Macromedia Studio programs to get round Lan Ranger and Remote Control's restrictied application and title check! luckly this year the teachers appear to be able to control their classes so kids haven't get been 'messing around'! Has any played the sonic game. its actually not bad to play?! lol Robert!
  15. Hey At our place we use the first three characters from their surname followed by their student numer (as given by our exam officer in school!) for example for me (Robert Mabbutt) my logon would go something like mab6152 (actually that was my logon when i was a student!) the first number relates to the year of entry and in AD our organisational units are like this y2006 etc. Plus we get provided with a CSV file already contianing all the details Ranger needs to create new users on batch! Regards, Robert
