A teacher was working on Smart Notebook at home (on a school staff class laptop). Several (but not all) slides on the file are showing as Corrupt??? when opening the file (screenshot below). The laptop has no Hard Drive Issues and is Virus Free. Does anyone know what could have caused this? I am guessing it is impossible to recover the Corrupt??? slides inside the file. Only thing of note was there was a large amount of slides (around 200) inside the file.

Disabling Windows Error Recovery Screen across a network
CommodoreS replied to CommodoreS's topic in Windows 7
Should not matter if you have included the \\server\netlogon\file.bat in the script name. You could also add the files to show files then click on browse to select the BAT file. Its just a second way of doing it - I think most people link to the scripts in Netlogon rather then adding it to the GPO, but it might be worth trying this if something to do with the Netlogon share is giving the Access Denied error. -
Anyone have any ideas on this? I still don't seem to have solved this yet.

SmartNotebook on 3rd party screens
CommodoreS replied to CommodoreS's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Thats basically what I just said. I have been told the board licence is £299 which includes a 1 year software licence for up to 4 machines for that class. For existing smart boards the £16 licence is per machine per board or the £34 class licences is for 4 machines per board, but not all boards need to be covered by that license. -
SmartNotebook on 3rd party screens
CommodoreS replied to CommodoreS's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
The Smart Licensing seems a tad bit confusing nowadays, however I have been quoted £16 per machine for a 1 year site licence - so the £24 per machine seems overpriced by about £8 per machine, although I expect that company is paying huge advertising costs to promote which means they have to sell the licences more expensive to cover that. I have been quoted £34 for a 1 year class license which covers up to 4 machines for one class so would work out better if you used 3 or more machines per class with the software. -
Disabling Windows Error Recovery Screen across a network
CommodoreS replied to CommodoreS's topic in Windows 7
I think the OP meant a way for GPP to apply these two commands to fix the problem, rather than the part of the script which creates a blank file to skip running the script once it has been run once. If that is the case, then like most things Microsoft - No there is no GPP to apply those two commands to stop this happening. -
Disabling Windows Error Recovery Screen across a network

Please can someone confirm whether or not this does need quotes as every thread and post has listed the command without quotes... Even in the link you posted: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/security/143729-interesting-hack-today-3.html#post1239167 The BAT file solution does not mention quotes, and only the PowerShell startup script shows the quotes. Typing the command manually also does not need quotes. I could be wrong, but my guess it could be something to do with: Computer Config>Admin Templates>System>Scripts> Run startup scripts asynchronously From memory, I had problems with Office and .NET Framework 4 installing pre-logon until I had enabled this policy. -
Interactive Projectors on Walls only
CommodoreS replied to CommodoreS's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
The problem I have is some rooms have limited wall space where all children would be able to easily see the board facing forward, so those rooms currently have mobile 4:3 smartboards and ceiling mounted projectors which are approaching their EOL needing replacing. I don't really want to replace with 4:3 smartboards and would like something large and 16:9 - interactive flat panel displays are deemed too small and the large ones too expensive. I am wondering if anyone has made a mobile board solution for 16:9 Interactive Projectors - I have searched but cannot find anything (I guess most people have usable walls so developing a mobile solution is deemed uneconomical for companies?) -
I recently enabled WOL on some Lenovo PCs so I can start them remotely to work on them if needed and also schedule them to boot in the morning ready for teachers to use if required. However since doing this they are turning themselves on at random times, but all at the same time and the times are random - 6PM one night, 8PM another night and 3AM another. The machines are being shut down and not sent to sleep, so it can only be some kind of LAN magic packet or pattern waking them. Interestingly I started using sleep mode on my home PC recently and noticed sometimes the PC would just keep bringing itself out of sleep. Running powercfg -lastwake showed that the network card was bringing the machine out of sleep, however no other PCs were switched on the home network - only the Internet, home media smart tv and, phone and iPad in standby. Disabling the WOL features inside Windows 7 stopped the machine coming out of sleep, but I am still wondering what could have been sending a command to the network card to wake it - I can only guess something over the internet? As the machines at the school are using BIOS WOL I doubt disabling the Window 7 NIC WOL would solve the problem, and even it it does I am then turning WOL off, whereas I would like to use it but can't have machines waking themselves up. The BIOS options for WOL are limited but I have only enabled WOL through the NIC. Did a fair bit of searching to try and solve this one and came up with nothing, so if anyone has had a similar problem any help would be appreciated.

Disabling Windows Error Recovery Screen across a network
CommodoreS replied to CommodoreS's topic in Windows 7
I am guessing this is a .BAT rather than a .VBS script. Please can you let me know what area of GPO has this script been added? Can it be added as a computer script and applied pre-logon? I would have thought the command would need administrator rights to run, but could be wrong. I am also unsure how I would test this has worked - perhaps by shutting down a PC while windows is rebooting? (although doing that does not always make this screen appear). -
I am looking at Interactive Projectors and wondered if these can be used on Walls only or can be used on other surfaces such as drop screens or some kind of portable\mobile board solution exists. If they are used on a wall, I am guessing it also needs to be painted white.

I am looking into board\screen replacement and wondered if using the latest SmartNotebook software on a 3rd party screen (such as a Sahara) looses any features of the software compared to using it on a Smart manufactured screen. Would Multitouch still work and the iPad integration and would there be any features of the software that would not work?

Disabling Windows Error Recovery Screen across a network
CommodoreS replied to CommodoreS's topic in Windows 7
Thank you for this - tomorrow is fine. I am guessing it can be placed in a Computer\Machine startup GPO rather than a user one requiring Admin Permissions? -
The Windows Error Recovery screen which defaults to Launch Startup Repair (rather than Start Windows Normally) is annoying. I found this thread on how to disable this: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/12806c89-3592-4748-83dd-5b55eabec5a1/disabling-windows-error-recovery-on-startup?forum=quebecmisc But would rather just make it default to Start Windows Normally. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this (or disable it through GPO) rather than having to enter the command on each machine?

I have now seen this issue twice on 32 Bit Windows 7 PCs with IE11. When opening IE11 the top half of the screen is blank and you have to scroll down to view Google. When clicking in the search box anything you type does not appear. Also seems to affect other websites too. I have tried doing a rest inside IE and it does not fix the problem. Apart from a rebuild, does anyone have any ideas how to fix this please?

I am trying to update Kodu to the latest version 1.4.27.0 on Windows 7 32-Bit laptops. I have also installed XNA 4.0 When trying to run Kodu or the Configuration tool nothing happens when using the shortcuts or EXE files directly. The proxy configuration in Essex is set up so teachers use Port 8085 and students use port 8082. Installing IE10 has removed the user configurable proxy settings for IE in GPO and the new system looks like it configures the proxy on a machine level rather than a user level. Because of the different port settings I really need to be able to configure this on a user level. Please can someone help and tell me of a way I can easily configure this on a user level as I have looked and found no answer.

I made the mistake of choosing Commercial Licence when installing teamviwer on my home PC (for personal use) and now cant seem to find a way to change it to a non-commercial licence. Even uninstalling removing all settings and reinstalling does not allow you to reselect the option. Did a quick search but could not find a way to change this. Does anyone have any ideas please?

Does anyone know any good alternative software similar to RM Starting Graph? Perhaps 2Simple something? or something else?

I have been asked to look into purchase a webcam and a way to broadcast this on the school website so children can view Chickens Hatching over the web at home. Has anyone done this before and have any suggestions please of a webcam (I would normally use Logitech Webcams) and software that would easily allow it to be transmitted over the net?

I am currently looking at the best options in terms of price and quality for iPad Mini Charge and Sync units and units which could charge Hudl 7" Android devices. I saw a large number of companies selling charge units at BETT but am still unsure of what to go for, although am more looking for charge cases rather than big trolleys. The Parotec C68 looks like the best options for iPad Minis at the moment, as it also stores protective iPad mini cases, but it seems they don't sell charge only cases (sync would not be needed for Android devices) so really looking for a Andoid 7" charge case more than anything. Help and advice would be appreciated.

I found a Blog which tells you how to temporary disable Smart Ink: Technology Tutorials and More: Disable/Turn off Smart Ink for the Smartboard Notebook software. However this is apparently only for Smart Notebook standalone installs. On a Network install Smart Ink Settings is not installed. Does anyone please know of a way to temporary disable (not remove) Smart Ink on a network install of the product?

LogMeIn Free shutting down January 21st 2014
CommodoreS replied to sonofsanta's topic in General Chat
I am quite disgusted they have given such short notice and on such a busy week with BETT happening. Although have also noticed Logmein has recently been downloading an EXE client to remote in, rather than being purely web based like before. Has anyone here tried Centrastage and thoughts? Looks like it is £1 per machine and includes a remote support client and other tools. Only problem seems to be you need to install a client to access other clients and you cannot remote in through a web browser. -
Can anyone please advise?
