I am currently in the middle of deciding what new CCTV system to use in our new house. I have decided that I will probably go with the UniFi dream machine all-in-one router which can also host network/protect and then have a few G4/G5 bullets dotted around. For expansion, I could always plug a switch into the router and install a few more.

I would be interested to know where you get with this. We are currently a google school with students all having Chromebooks and the majority of staff using windows laptops/desktops. Our server was on its last legs so I decided to enrol our windows devices into GCPW with advanced desktop security so you can apply CSP policies/restrictions to them (like intune). The only issue that remains for me is the imaging side, as it has to all be done manually.

Hi all, Do any of my fellow South West (Cornwall) connections use Wildanet as their home ISP? They seem to have an incredible black friday deal on at the moment for 900mbps/400mbps for £27 a month, router included. Just not sure what they are like.

Thanks for your reply. I have looked into EXA and it does look good. We are a Google MAT with GCPW implemented. As for their surfprotect product, it says online that it can authenticate with Google SSO. I would like to know more about this, for example do you map a certain policy to a Google OU etc etc.

This was my initial thought. However, there isn't really anything close by to hold the cable. It's basically just open space. I also agree that the price for proper installation isn't bad. I will be advising SLT that I would go that route, it's much better than using a mobile phone paired with an unlimited data plan.

Yeah I agree, it isn't ideal but I suppose it will do. I spoke to the site manager today, and they had a quote to run electric to the cabin in 2016 which came to £2600. It would probably be even more now. So although it isn't the best option it's still much cheaper @ £1200. Although the phrase 'Buy cheap, buy twice' comes to mind Thanks!

Just a quick update After looking around online, I have decided that this might be the best solution for permanent Wi-Fi/Power to our cabin. The Anker 535 power station 512wh (max 500w output). This will power a nano-beam at the cabin. I will pair the power station with a 100w solar panel which should be enough to keep the power station topped up. I will use the second PoE port on the nanobeam to power an AC-PRO I have lying around. The maximum power draw for these two items is about 20 watts, so the power station should suffice. Can anyone see any issues I may face with this setup? The only issue I can think of.... being in Cornwall, well... we don't get much sun! Thanks!

I guess I was reading into it a bit much! so in a sense it's just a wireless uplink to the other building? I guess I could just plug the main site one into our POE switch rather than the injector. I think this is the way... just got to find a way to provide power. Thanks for your help

Thanks for explaining. So in theory, if I managed to get power to the cabin I could have a building to building bridge and plug the cabin nanobeam into something like a U6-LR? seems to easy haha!

I could be wrong, but from my understanding a connection is needed at both ends to create the wireless link?

This is the main issue it seems... I could look into solar panels however the nanobeam located at the cabin would need internet connectivity too which isn't really an option for us currently.

Hi Everyone, I am hoping someone can offer their opinion/experience on long range Wi-Fi solutions. We have a cabin about 150m away from our main school building (with a clear line of site) which is used within outdoor learning sessions. The cabin has NO power, or internet connectivity (cabling) in proximity. We use UniFi throughout, and would be wanting to look for a solution from them. My first thought was a U6-LR access point, but I'm not sure if this would be sufficient enough distance wise - we need something reliable. There was initial discussions about a mobile phone with an unlimited data plan, but this means the phone would need to be shared, and there's the looming cost of an expensive data plan to pay every month for the foreseeable. This thought led me to possibly integrating a Basestation XG. Does anyone currently use one of these? It's a lot of money to spend on something which might be completely overkill. Thanks!

Yeah, I can't fault it really. Basically Ricoh's own version of PaperCut mobility print!

What copiers do you currently have? we use Ricoh cloud print which has worked great so far. Fully integrates with Google/365 and staff can print from anywhere and release via a pin code.

We recently just purchased 20 x Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 14” Chromebooks. Can't fault them, and have been in circulation for a couple of months now. They also support auto updates until 2030.

What server licensing do you have? I was in the same situation, so I just updated our host/vms to windows server 2016 which is the latest version the hardware will support. Not ideal, but at least we are covered. We are decommissioning our server in the new year anyway... (hopefully!)

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I did setup some forwarders on the local DNS server to point to our new address but obviously it still seemed to have issues. I think for now, I will revert the DNS address back to the original in our DHCP scope and wait until we have moved all devices away from our domain and go from there.
