I had this with a user the other week along with the same user unable to randomly send emails - strangely a password reset completely fixed it and it has worked since... might have just been a fluke though! Have you submitted .har logs to Microsoft support? Those usually help pinpoint the issue.

We've had the same, temporary workaround is to open the document you want to printout and send it to the OneNote Desktop (Protected) printer in order to insert it...

We also include link to the key IT policies, loan agreement for staff devices and information on cyber security along with information on the mandatory cyber training they have to complete. Password policy is printed as part of their paper onboarding form from IT, we then have a SharePoint page which they are emailed a link to automatically when their account is created.

We buy our CTouch from Stone/Converge (they have always been the cheapest) and get Data Power ltd to install them, but I am sure stone do installs too.

We use Smoothwall cloud scan for this. It works very well.

Interested in this - as we also need a reliable solution do deliver computer science exams. Currently we deliver it via local install on the device, but we aren't on a local AD so the devices are quite restricted but we are getting requests to install more and more python modules, or visual studio code which essentially does not work if you block terminal, cmd and powershell. I have looked at virtual labs for learning/lessons briefly but not found one that is suitable yet that would also allow us to easily lock down for an exam...

As you are using Senso to block, could you use senso to run the powershell script to map the drives? We don't do it for mapping drives , but we do it to map local printers for computer science.

@geohanson It is fairly new but works well for us. We pass guest traffic through the smoothwall and apply student level filtering using Ident by location - same as BYOD. We don't do the certs for guests as it would be too complicated given the number of connections per day! We don't use 802.1X at the moment - we're waiting for Cisco Access Manager to be released in GA before looking at options as we don't have local AD.

We have recently moved to the setup you describe from Wave9 - Sophos XGS in HA + Smoothwall Filter in HA (On prem box for BYOD/Guest and Browser Extension for managed devices) We are essentially double filtering - so 2 SSL certs for managed devices. The Sophos has a constant very basic filter which covers the basic required categories then we push traffic through the smoothwall box/client for more advanced filtering so even networks such as our IoT VLAN (which we don't push through the smoothwall on prem) get basic KCSIE level filtering. You can auth your BYOD users through Entra SSO on the smoothwall SSL landing page - although we have not set this up yet.

We use Adobe Sign for Teams but we only use this for things that require a full legal documented signature, such as employment contracts or HR related matters and would use Microsoft forms for most other things. It is not cheap as we went for the annual cost per user per year - instead of the per envelope charge.

We name all devices manually e.g. ABC-P-S-CR101 ABC - School Identifier Code P - Pupil Device S - Shared Device (1 for 1:1) CR1 - Room Code (Could be 6TH for Sixth Form, MUS for Music etc) 01 - Device number in that room. This allows us to split down specific rooms into dynamic groups automatically for software deployment.

Not on V2 - but on V1 we had a very similar issue where it would slow the internet down significantly (talking down to 0.06mbps) disabling logging and blocking fixed it.

Probably some reason why we shouldn't do it this way - but it works very very well... we are able to ensure all software is on, reporting in correctly and all updates are installed before delivery to the user New device reimaged with blank Windows 11 image Log into the device with account with the "Microsoft Entra Joined Device Local Administrator" role During the OOBE process, set the device name (which corresponds to dynamic groups in Entra ID) Reboot device - The device then sets itself up with all the correct policies and software, takes about 1 hour. Run Windows Update manually, to install BIOS, Drivers and Updates then reboot Device ready to use

Interesting seeing your views on this, having been full Intune for 3 years in a secondary school with no 1:1 devices. For context, we don’t use autopilot and assign all policies and devices via group based on device naming convention. Made a few comments that might help; Policy application is inconsistent - If applied to the user - however when applied to the device is works well. When we reviewed what policies student’s vs staff need, there isn't really that much difference anymore, staff and student devices are pretty much the same, bar maybe access to a couple of specific settings menus. Reliability with shared devices - We're not 1:1 and all students would use a shared Intune device. Apply policies to the device, not the user and we have no issue with them not applying. Drive mapping and legacy dependencies - We haven't really had to do this. If you're not moving to a full cloud environment with everything in SaaS then you might experience issues. App deployment is flaky - We find app deployment quite good, although it can sometimes take a while to populate on the devices. A recent example was our casting software needed an urgent upgrade to fix an issue, we pushed it out at around 7am and by 9, all the devices that were on had been update the others followed when they came online. We push core apps to all staff and student devices and then use Company portal for specific department apps. Limited control and visibility - I would agree and say there is less visibility, but I’m not sure what more visibility I would need - we don't often have issues with Intune devices that a reimage doesn’t fix. Connectivity dependency – I do agree on this point, however when the device comes online it should do all it’s update, and the reporting is quite good for windows update/apps. User frustration - We don't experience this, all our Intune devices are ready to go within 30sec to 1min of being logged into for a new user, for an existing user - it can be as little as 10 seconds before a working desktop. It all depends on your organisations risk appetite, for us, downtime is not an option. When looking at redundancy, you need to not only be thinking about the line into the building, but what that is connected to - we have several leased lines, with the two main lines being served by completely different ducting, backbones and exchanges - so if our local exchange is effected, at least one of our lines should not. You could consider a 2.5G connection on a 10G bearer which is what one of our lines is, it is much cheaper than the 10Gb on 10Gb bearer.
