It's more surprise that they haven't used it at all, when they were the ones pushing for the move from Uniservity to Moodle in the first place. I'm quite pleased that virtually every department seems to be starting to use Moodle in some shape or form with a handful being quite heavy users

We've just rolled out Moodle within the last two weeks. Currently the two heaviest users are actually MFL and PE/Sports Studies. The ICT department have yet to actually use it properly! All staff have been told that they have to start using it though and I imagine our SMT are going to start applying pressure to departments that aren't.

No SSD's for the 7110 unfortunately . Hoping that my budget plans for next year get accepted and we can start looking at a 7310/7410

Well parents will eventually be getting logins to Moodle together with SLG. Not ideal, but we've decided to use SLG and see how it goes. No rollout of SLG yet but we've been assured it'll be before September! Still testing various two-factor authentication systems for use by teachers which is delaying things.

Running xe vhd-list vm-uuid= will give you the UUID for the VHD files. I believe that should match what Xen calls the file on the SR. You can get the VM's UUID by running xe vm-list If you've used snapshots at all and you've deleted them make sure that all space has been reclaimed first - CTX123400 - Reclaiming Disk Space from Deleted XenServer Snapshots - Citrix Knowledge Center Hope that helps!

We've just moved to Moodle from Uniservity. However we won't be doing parental reporting through Moodle - at least not initially. We're being provided SIMS Learning Gateway by the county council so we're going to be using that to handle all reporting.

I think we've now got around 40 Ricoh printers including C420DN's, SP4100's, SP5100's, C232SF's and a collection of A4 and A3 gelsprinters and haven't really had any problems with them.

Which reminds me that I still need to change this workstation over to using W7 RTM! A job for the half term I think

Sorry by entering each mark I meant block filling and then changing absences . Pretty sure she would have killed someone if she had to enter every present mark as well!

Paper registers here. The attendance officer then has to go through every register and enter every mark into Sims manually, twice a day. No scanning here! Very backwards unfortunately. Especially since every classroom has a PC and every teacher a laptop

I'd agree that it'd be a real shame if we couldn't use Dedupe on the 7110 series. Here's hoping that we're allowed to bump the ram up!

Personally I'd be future proofing and getting a gigabit switch now. Even more so if you're opting for a manufacturer that offers lifetime warranties on it's switches - like HP .

Just because it's free doesn't mean it's not enterprise ready. I'm pretty sure that facebook has a bigger database then any school MIS, and they're able to use MySQL quite happily. The same goes for youtube and any number of e-commerce sites that are basing their entire business around a MySQL database. There are a huge number of websites and companies out there that are using both MySQL and PostgreSQL. If you want a support contract you can also purchase those, and like Cybernerd pointed out MySQL is now backed by one of the largest database manufacturers in the world.

I've been looking at getting some Dell 780 USFF's. They have 90% efficient PSUs as standard and take a standard kettle lead while still being very small. Price wise I've been getting quotes in the same price range as our other Dell 780 SFF's (£350-400ish depending on config) with 3yr NBD warranties.

If you have the Core Cal pack (sounds like you do) then it includes the SCCM client Cals for each of your devices. Under schools agreement SCCM server is very very cheap

Hmmm I'd have to question just what our support contract is giving us if the VM version is going to cost that much! I'd also have to question why we were initially told the upgrade cost was for the new server if the VM version is also going to be a paid for upgrade. Time to go have a word with them I think
