  3. Microsoft released their "Golden Path for Education" documentation back in December 2024, but I can't see anyone discussing it on EduGeek at all. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/discussions/o365education/golden-path-for-education---part-1a/4356169 I've read through the many pages and can see how valuable this document can be when starting from fresh. Has anyone tried to retrospectively apply some of their recommendations to an existing tenancy?

  5. From my compliance reports in Intune admin center, I can see they are all running 22H2. I'll see if I can grab one and force it to 23H2 locally or via an update policy. They still receive security updates from Microsoft as normal so they're still Cyber Essentials compliant.
  6. The 1st batch of 120 is 18 months old. The 2nd batch of 180 is 6 months old. We've got a time and date issue with some of them too which they claim to have recently acknowledge and have rolled out an update to fix.
  7. By using the recovery image, you're in essence wiping the hard disk and starting fresh with SE again.
  8. We have just over 300 of these devices. Annoyingly they're now end of line and only around 150 left in stock in the UK with no direct replacement. However, the images can be downloaded from Microsoft here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surface-recovery-image, they only have 21H2 and 22H2 and no 23H2. It did take them 6 months to create the 22H2 after it was released, so I'm not hold my breath that it'll be released at all! We're now looking at putting full Windows 11 on them with some tweaks to make it run smoother. Phil
  9. Hi All, I'm struggling to find best practice on the creation and or grouping of Intune Configuration profiles for users and devices. How do you group your Intune Configuration profiles/settings? Do you have as many settings for the device and users in a device applied policy, or do you only put device settings in a device policy and users settings in a user policy? Also, do you group as many settings as you can into 1 policy, or do you split them out into a single setting per policy and then group them? I'm wondering if there's a performance decrease/increase in doing this or not. Kind regards, Phil
  10. IT Technician Apprentice Elmbridge, Surrey Starting: As soon as possible 36 hours per week Mondays and Fridays 8.00am-4:00pm Full year, Fixed Term 18-21 months apprenticeship contract Starting Salary: £15,956 -£18,771 (FTE) Full details and application form can be found on our website
  11. Annoyingly I couldn't find a useful and simple 1 page document that explains the difference, but I do recommend a chat with Pugh's licencing expert as he has some slides which do explain the difference. We previously had to pay for exchange server licences, but that's now covered for free under the A3 licence. Now we pay for A3 licences for all staff plus the free student A3 benefit, SQL server lics and windows server lics. Phil

If you do not, your order will not be accepted by Microsoft.
  14. We moved from OVS-ES to EES last month after our 3 year deal ran out. The number has been reduced from 1000 to 500, and now to 100 EQU. But you need to purchase via the JISC/Chest framework and pay a small fee for the benefit. We saw a nice reduction in cost, and the benefits of changing over to the A3/A5 licencing model. Sign up here https://www.chest.ac.uk/agreements/microsoft-ees-education-qualified-user/ and you can see all the companies who are allowed to quote under this framework. Regards, Phil - - - Updated - - - To confirm, our agreement has 140 EQU (the EES equivalent to FTE). There's a slightly different calculation to make...

  16. Zoho assist https://www.zoho.com/assist/ is great. The have a free and paid for version. We've used it in recent evenings to remote in to staff home PCs to help them with remotely accessing things. Usually they haven't done windows updates for months which doesn't help things...

  18. I've used the magic F12 key in chrome and can see that traffic to the Amsterdam servers through our ISP is returning with error 404: The site appears to load successfully over a Virgin Media Business connection.
  19. Looks like it's working from a different internet connection. Do you use Smoothwall for filtering by any chance?
  20. Looks like it works OK through the android and IOS app, just not through the Web interface on any device. Our share point data is held in the "United Kingdom" according to the admin portal. Is yours too or does it say somewhere else?
  21. Same here, logged a case with Microsoft in the admin portal at 9am, got the usual response of "clear the cache" etc. Not a huge amount of people putting it on Twitter as an issue, but it's certainly being noticed here as we use it as our main source for storing videos for use in classrooms.
  22. Thought I'd update everyone on this. As we were an early preview school for Microsoft Classroom and SDS, we were using it for about 2 months before the summer. During the summer, they performed many updates to the back end which changed the way in which it was licenced. In the end, the fix was to revoke the Classroom licence, wait an hour and then re-apply the Classroom licence.
  23. Good morning all, I've been having difficulty updating class sets in Microsoft SDS for the past 3 days. It's mainly when trying to login via sds.microsoft.com and clicking "sign in", the page then asks me to login (as normal) and then hangs for 30 secs and times out. At the moment, o365 tech support thinks it's just my computer, despite trying it on various machines on various ISPs. Can anyone else who tried the SDS preview before the summer still login to the portal, or is it just me?! Thanks, Phil Wessell ICT Network Manager Therfield School
