I can still buy a USB floppy disk drive. If I'm storing data on a CD/DVD/Blu Ray, then I'm going to not only store that data in a safe, I'm going to have a disc drive in there too.

I don't think it has the implications you think it does yet, especially with Brexit coming along, the UK has to put something in place for itself anyway for between the EU and the UK and the UK and the US. The VLE question I found curious. I'm finding this one even more curious. For all of these questions, you can't just throw a dart at a dartboard and decide that because you hit number 15, that number 15 on the list is the one you go for. Ultimately, you need to decide that by speaking to your stakeholders, deciding what they want from a VLE, working out what your infrastructure is capable of delivering and then speaking to the cloud providers and working out if what they offer is suitable for your desired goals. You should also investigate the general business, and how viable the business is in the long term.

I'm sure @jamesleonard might be able to clarify some of this from the Google for Education side of things.

Currently, I think it means very little until something else is put in it's place, especially with us now out of the EU, and Brexit looming, I'm sure a simple legislation change would sort it. I'm sure organisations like Apple, Microsoft and Google are no doubt looking into the data regions implications, and whether they will offer those solutions and services to the UK and EU users for free, rather than keeping things like that behind paid solutions.

Well as it seems to be confirmed that the Nightingale Hosptials will be funded till March 2021 now, BETT is probably not going to be happening. And even if it did, I am not entirely sure that people who are in there because they can't go to a regular hospital due a respiratory illness really want a bunch of geeks and nerds tempting fate and making a huge noise right next door. You can't help but get "BETT Flu" when you go in a normal year as is. See you in 2022 BETT.

I quite liked the two hall format. I don't think it was quite right in it's setup, but it definitely felt like there was more room to breathe and it felt easier to get to see people this year. Probably helped that a few companies decided to setup satellite shows outside of the main BETT area too, like Acer. I'd like to see more things like Microsoft had set up in the Platinum Suites. More breakout spaces and professional development offerings as well as the traditional trade show side of things. Big impressive stands are all well and good, but I think that side of the show needs to evolve. Microsoft are big and brutish enough to be able to set the Platinum Suites up themselves, but it would be good to see BETT offer a way for smaller companies to have breakout areas and training spaces too.

I doubt that it'll happen at all. Last I looked the venue is still a hospital and is being kept as such in preparation for a potential next spike. So they'd have to move it to another exhibition centre, and the only ones that would have the size capacity to host BETT are all hospitals that are being kept as such in preparation for a potential next spike. (Excel, NEC, MCCC) Even if that wasn't the case, there isn't anything I'm currently that interested in as a customer that I couldn't get a demonstration of in other capacities. Also, the amount of time it takes to get there from anywhere that isn't either Central London or East of it makes it an absolute ball ache to go to at the best of times. It takes me as long to get from Birmingham to Euston as it does from Euston to Excel. Its just a pain to do every year. I also don't want to go to a place thats also operating as an overflow hospital, even if they rejig the halls. Incredibly morbid. I'll leave it till 2022 if it happens again at all.

I thought the book and the film were both really, really bad. I liked the concept but the book was so badly written and quite horrible in its writing (the endless nerdy and over-detailed lists and fact dumps) and treatment of women. To me, in particular when it came to some of the writing it felt like Video Game American Psycho, but without the self awareness and irony. The film therefore, really didn't stand a chance.

Having read this blog, I think he would be right pre-Covid, but his analysis really doesn't seem to be taking Covid-19 and the pitfalls people have seen during it into account. I think that will shake up the market massively, particularly when it comes to ease of access to data.

There are a bunch of upgrades to Chat. Particularly the shared tasks in rooms and the files view so you can see all files shared into a particular room. You can also choose to turn off threading in chat now it seems.

This. A million times this. Give them some ownership of the process and see what they want and are interested in. It will help if you have some demonstration devices for them to use though.

Ahhh that's Ars for you. The integration is clearly Google's response to Teams. Seems they're finally getting their act together on the messaging side of things. I think the dedicated apps will still be available, they're just bringing them into Gmail also. Hopefully it's intelligent enough not to duplicate notifications if you have both installed. Time to let the staff know just in case they start making the changes over summer and everything has been swapped around by the time they get back!
