Promethean all the way here Though like others, I guess it is because it is what I am used to. I much prefer the pen - who writes with their finger?! Hmmmmm...... No I really meant nothing. Just for 100 users. But now I can't find anything on it! Maybe worth sending them an email if you're interested to see if they still do it. It is nothing to do with OU. I got my single user from there, which got me interested in it. But I found the school licenses on my own! If I find anything else, I'll post back. Andy

They always make think of a nightclub from where I am from. There is, or was, a world famous (apparently) nightclub. Very popular with the tourists etc.. Someone came along and built a nightclub on the same block, and called it "Main Entrance"! Andy

Any SIMS Maestroes out there who may be able to help me with this?: Supposing there is a student who is enrolled into the year below their age. They are in SIMS etc, in the relevant year group and classes. Now a month or so down the line, they are deemed fit to go into their 'normal' year group. How would one go about effecting this in SIMS? Anyone any thoughts? Cheers, Andy

Are they all in the same place or located around the school? I ask this because we had some issues when first using ghost, I had to adjust some settings on some of the managed switches. We have just finished imaging about 20 optiplex 745s through a cheap 3COM officeconnect and they all worked perfectly - albeit a bit slow (we did it overnight). Andy

We are using PARS.net here. We have been running off the registers in a blind panic in the event of a drill until now. However, PARS does have a fire module, and I have just bought a shiny new Tablet PC to run it on - though I haven't tried it yet Andy

We are still on the lancashire ac.uk, as I suspect are a lot of lancs schools. They have been asking for a while now that schools change to the sch.uk, but they don't seem to be pushing it too much. Andy

There is a limited version of the Boson Simulator included with labs particular to the CCNA. What can be worth doing (and what I have started) is you can get cheap (ish) Cisco gear off EBay and build your own labs! On another note, I am doing an OU course in another subject 0 the materials are excellent. Andy

We almost had one of these fitted, the room were it would have been fitted had some pipes running along the skirting. To save any messing I spoke with the installation manager guy at Promethean who I am pretty sure said it would be fine to have it off the ground some way. I think the only limitation was for usability's sake. We didn;t have it in the end - but the reason why was nothing to do with this Andy

We have all staff with full control over the SIMS directory (on the local machine) which contains SIMS .net and PARS .net. PARS refuses to run unless this is so for us - I thought SIMS just needed the permisions for upgrades but I could be wrong. Either way - this is all I have had to do and everything works fine (most of the time - this is SIMS afterall ) Andy

Does anyone happen to run the Fire Module and/or TCP Server for PARS.net on a Tablet PC? Just wondering if they run alright, and are able to both run on the same machine. Andy

It is generally the whole display is it, and not just a DVD? This is a common issue. Andy

Surely E = Excellent, G = Good and F = Fantastic Re Apprenticeships, one of our local(ish) colleges runs an apprenticeship and we have a fellow working with us on his placement. He is actually our employee, and the college takes care of the apprenticeship stuff. Not sure about being being qualified to do them or otherwise - maybe worth looking into? Andy

I have a copy of KAZ Typing Tutor which I got from my OU course. I believe it is paid for - the OU must have some sort of license. But there is a 100 user online version available on the website for a school or such like. You might like to check it out http://www.kaz-type.com Andy

Well I am all for it: I recently bought a switch under the scheme, we had been awarded some money from somewhere to develop a little cluster of IT in a particular dept. I bought the switch and did the paperwork, the Bursar raised the invoice of course; and because of the timing, the money came back in the next financial year. The bursar put it straight into my budget - more than doubling it Andy

We ordered a Dell PDA once for a teacher - long service award or soemthing like that. Anyway they sent us 2. Can't remember if they had invoiced us or not but I rang them and told them. They offered us the discount to keep it (like you broc). We said "thanks, but no thanks." Called us back and told us to keep it! Andy
