Internet Safety Talking Point 1
In my last article I republished Scott McLeod’s 26 Internet Safety Talking Points. Over the next few weeks I am looking at each point to tease apart the ideals behind them, to try to see both sides of the discussion and to share examples about who others have work on the issues. A lot of this will be from a UK-centric position but hopefully it will provide some insight into the similarities and differences with our friends in other countries. Today’s point is about responsibility and accou

To Block or Not to Block, that isn’t the question! (but is a point for discussion)
With kind permission I am reposting Scott McLeod‘s ‘Dangerously Irrelevant’ Blog Post about 26 Internet Safety Talking Points. I will follow this up by looking at each point (one a day perhaps) to strip it down and look at both sides of the point. Please remember that these are talking points and will bring forward a variety of views, depending on personal experience. —————– For Leadership Day 2012, I thought I would gather in one place many of the talking points that I use with princi

Site Changes: Threads are marked as read when you view them or the threads forum
Due to the recent changes in thread marking having a very love/hate response we shall test the third and final way vBulletin offers to deal with thread marking. The new mode should mark threads inside a forum as read after you view the list and then time out, this should allow threads to be cleared out faster and doesnt come with the cookie issue of the old system although this option is the least used. Post your feedback here, we will run a poll to see what comes out as the most popular.

Please check: Javascript is enabled on your browser Adblock/Noscript allow .edugeek.net and .cdngeek.net scripts You net filtering isnt blocking a script Your browser is up to date (Chrome/IE8+/FireFox 10+

Site Changes: Threads are only marked as read when you view them
To deal with various mobile device issues and our old cookie based thread marking system we have switch to database tracking. This means that unlike before if you don’t read a thread when logged in at work, it will still be unread when you get home. This also means when your signed in via mobile browser/app the unread threads list stays accurate before. How did it work before: vBulletin Manual: vBulletin would use a cookie which was stored locally to track your last visit time which wo
