Oaktech Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 I need to move my school domain from its current registrar RMPLC to someone who will allow me to change my own DNS settings and control my own subdomains... Recommend me a registrar who understands .sch.uk addresses... I've talked to a couple of registrar companies who don't get it and its frustrating me. Cheers.
Quackers Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 We changed it to our self, do you have a reliable enough connection and a backup connection from a different providor to host both the name servers on? 1
Linfit Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 We use Zen, partly as they are our local company, but they have a nice simple web interface where you can change all the settings online. Very straightforward. 1
Oaktech Posted February 7, 2013 Author Posted February 7, 2013 We changed it to our self, do you have a reliable enough connection and a backup connection from a different providor to host both the name servers on? sadly, we are on a single line with no access into our own router as it owned by swgfl - we are working on that as a seperate issue! Has anyone else used Host-it? they seem to be the only registrar who come high up the list in google who understand the sch.uk domains.
CyberNerd Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 We moved .sch.uk directly from RMPLC to CS New Media Web Hosting - UK Based Web Hosting, Reseller Hosting, VPS & Dedicated Servers very simple - @CSNM-Carl understands the process inside out If you search the forums there are plenty of people happy with the service CSNewmedia offer. 2
sonofsanta Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 RM's insistence that any DNS change requests be faxed through on headed paper has always struck me as a little bizzare and poorly thought through. I would have thought that emailing from the domain in question is a much more secure and obvious method, rather than letting anyone who's ever received a letter from our school fake up a request and fax it in! 1

Oaktech Posted February 7, 2013 Author Posted February 7, 2013 Going to inbox him now as I have some questions...
john Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 CS New Media for me as well Carl knows .sch.uk domains no question and his DNS is excellent to manage and just works. 1

We normally bundle it into our broadband costs but it's only £50 a year to host a .sch.uk domain on its own and give you access to our control panel. Dave
sonofsanta Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Bump just to say thanks to @CSNM-Carl who put up with all my daft questions and badgering, as now I have all my DNS in an easy to use control panel with no fax machine required couldn't be happier! 2
