School Website

Hi all,

 

Part of one of my PM targets this year is to improve the platform of the school website. At the moment it's just me editing HTML files (through Notepad++) and uploading to FTP. What would be the best method/route to go down? Ideally I'd like to use a CMS so staff (reality: me/receptionist) can make changes to the website easily, like adding new pages/newsletters etc.

 

Can anybody recommend which would be the best sort of system to use? I know there are companies that do these sort of things but I'd prefer if we kept it in-house so we have everything in one place - we are a junior school of around 300 pupils, just incase that helps.

Drupal, Joomla, Wordpress if you know PHP & MySQL

We use Wordpress, it's a bit of a pain at first, but when you've got everything running smoothly it's a nice thing to use.

Yeah, I know PHP and MySQL quite well so I will look at those three suggestions, thanks!

We're currently on SWGfL's basic web package, so that doesn't support MySQL or PHP. I was aware of this from the beginning though and the plan was to always upgrade it anyway, but thanks I like Joomla but I don't know if it'd be a bit too much given the fact we're only a small school.

I know of 1 school that had problems with SWGfL Advanced hosting and moved their site. PM me if you want any more details....

 

I've done Wordpress and Joomla sites recently. I am liking Wordpress more than Joomla currently

+1 for Joomla, I did our interanet with it last year, very easy to use.

Joomla has been our platform for many years although we do have one on CMS made simple, but that was bought in.

 

And I use joomla for three of my own sites.
