Quackers Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 literally changed from drinks like Dr Pepper and Coke to Pepsi Max Cherry and Coke Zero, no other changes just yet. Diet drinks make me eat lots. I get MASSIVE sugar cravings if i consume one. I just have normal, real pop now, and I'm the thinnest i have ever been as an adult.

featured_spectre Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 As long as you don't drink too many - some people are addicted and drink several cans a day Try 4 litres a day (yes I went through 2 bottles a day). I recognised the problem, signed up to slimming world and a small change such as switching to max/zero varieties has helped. Now its a case of cutting down, as it is an addiction and frankly, a tough one to shift (it was harder than when I quit smoking!)
Tesla Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Right. Need to lose weight, accepted the fact I can't do a lot of exercise atm. Do's and dont's of food/mythbusting etc would be helpful?...
Joanne Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Up protein, lower carbs. Only have brown carbs eg/ brown wholemeal bread, brown pasta, brown rice and sweet potato instead of normal potato. Lot's of veg. Avoid sugar - eg/ fruit. Don't cut down what you eat. You don't have to be hungry. Snack on mixed nuts, oat biscuits and peanut butter... etcs.
Tesla Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 arent peanuts/nuts full of fat? edit: Question is void anyway as i don't even like nuts/peanuts/peanut butter. lol
witch Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 There have been lots of diet fads over the years but the main thing, especially if you can't exercise, is to cut down on carbs and try and eat slow-release ones (wholegrain rice, wholewheat bread etc). There has been a lot of fuss about saturated fat and too much fat in the diet causing heart problems but recent studies are showing that this is a bit of a red herring (!)(Saturated fats and heart disease link 'unproven' - Health News - NHS Choices) The only thing is to eat a balanced diet, cut down on the carbs and generally eat less. Do get into the habit of checking calories until you are more confident - it is easy to think that something like, say, a tuna mayo sandwich is low calorie when actually it isn't. Or you might not know that a glass of red wine has as many calories in as a doughnut. When I was laid up after my op and desperate not to put on any weight, I had a lot of cup-a-soups. If you make them with a bit less water than they specify they are quite thick and tasty. It helps to keep you away from the bad stuff. Good luck
Joanne Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Get one of these... one of my friends swears by his and he logs all the food he eats too. Fitbit Official Site for Activity Trackers & More ps/ nuts are full of good fats
tommej Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) Just avoid flavoured nuts / coated nuts, loads of sugar in em. I tend to stick to macadamias/almonds This is quite a good video about sugar: Long but worth watching. Edited December 16, 2014 by tommej
featured_spectre Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 12lb loss at slimming world this week. All I did was eat as normal and switch from Dr pepper to Pepsi max
Iain.Faulkner Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Good god man! 12lb's in a week!! Unbelievable effort :-) I had my last official weigh in at WW on Wednesday. Put a pound on this week :-( Not to worried though to be honest. In the last 12 months I have lost just over 5 stone in weight, for the very first time in my life I achieved what I wanted to at the beginning of the year (I've set myself the goal of losing 3 stone in a year for more years than I care to remember, and I smashed through it!), and I'm at a weight of under 15 stone for probably the first time since I was about 15. Just need to maintain it over christmas now, try not to let it all fall apart and come back in January with the aim of getting to a healthy BMI....only 14lb's to go :-) 1
Tesla Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Injury update: Apparently me bad ankle is being caused by something wrong with my calf muscle.... i now have a series of daily stretches etc and a follow up appt on the 14th. Reckon it could be 2 more months before i can start to build up my exercise routine...
featured_spectre Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Total loss as of last Thursday - 1st 1lb 8oz...will get another weigh in this Thursday. 1
Tesla Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Can anyone recommend anything nice and healthy available from shops? Like a particular meal they have bought and tried and liked etc. I shop at ASDA and recently bought a few healthy bits, a wholemeal pasta chicken salad thing was delicious, soups (that i haven't tried yet...), but i tried a Princes thai style Salmon pasta thing and it was gross (taste was....ok, texture was wet gloopy sloppy and horrible) I also tried a few bits from Asda's new "good and balanced" Range they are doing.. so im looking for stuff along that line (I'd be willing to go about other shops if there's any strong recomendations for anything) As a general rule i tend to like something meaty/saucy/tomatoey.... (rambling now...i'll stop)
Sam_Brown Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 My partner received a soup maker for Christmas. They are pretty good and easy to use.
Zoom7000 Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything in terms of ready to eat. Usually find myself getting put off by all the chemicals and funny words in the ingredients. Lately, whilst the wife has been out I've been rustling up really really basic things like boiled egg on 1 seeded brown toast. Maybe use the gluten free healthy peanut butter and add some spinach on top. The peanut butter helps you to feel full too. If it's too dry, you can add a tiny bit of tomato ketchup. Fast food and not too unhealthy!
featured_spectre Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Well in slimming world I was the only one to have not put on weight over christmas and new years celebrations, but I didn't lose any either, so I will take that as a win. I've been extra good this week, so looking to lose a few lbs. Will need to start going back to the gym when the January crowd has finished.
featured_spectre Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 5lb loss this week and slimmer of the week :-) happy days.
