Hello all. I am a computer technician in Thomaston, GA. I have been there for about 6 years now. I am responsible for 4 locations: My office is at North Elementary (4th - 5th grade), the Board of Education Office, Alternative School, and Pre-K. At north we have 4 computer labs, with an Activ Board in every classroom. We also have and Activ Board in ever classroom in our district. All our servers are located at the BOE office. Last year we migrated from a Windows NT network to a Windows 2003 AD Domain. I like it sooooo much better!!! Look forward to talking to you all!!

 

That's interesting as I was talking to someone involved in ICT as a supplier and we were talking about usa and how it is behind in terms of technology used in education (due to us having government ring fenced ict funding for many years).

 

He was saying stuff they were getting back from usa many were not going down route of ie boards in every classroom but the mobility options such as tablet pcs, graphics tablets etc etc.

 

In your view is that true not true bit of both something in between?

I look after the school Network, phones and anything else that can be plugged in. We are only a small school (Secordary)of just under 400 pupils with a team of three.

Good to see some mainland Europe input starting to happen. When we were at the BETT Show earlier in the year we had a good chat with a few German teachers who mentioned that there was very little in the way of organised tech support for most schools. Would you say that this is a true reflection on things?

 

It would also be handy if you could create a new topic to help explain to members about the schools structure over in Germany so we can understand some of the background. I am always interested to see how other countries approach things.

 

Oh ... and if you are wondering ... don't tell Jake there is any chocolate ... it's a secret. ;-)

I should of made myself clear, even though I'm in Germany, we provide schooling for British Forces in Germany (see web link). So we have the same curriculum.

Most of the teachers and staff are from the UK and we have similar funding. Does that answer your question?

Where in BFG? I was out there for 7 years (88 - 95), and loved it. I did Bielefeld, Sennelager and Bavaria (little hut up a mountain).

Yeah, working in BFG. Up in Hohne (near Hannover for those of you who haven't a clue about Germany)

 

Only been at this school since Oct 06. Loving it :-) It's a new building, so we got all the mod cons, even windows in our office!!

I work as a Network Manager for two primary schools shared on a 50/50 basis.

I also support two other schools on a support contract.

Previous to my current role, I worked as IT technician for a secondary school.

Hope that my experiences can benefit others and take away some good advice too.

Greeting To My fellow Educational Techies!!

 

I am the ICT Tech @ Hainault Forest High School based in Essex. I've been in the job for appx 16 months, originating from the finance industry in central London.

 

My focus whilst in the job has been application developement, 'trying to make the job easier'. Focussing on scripts with vbs, jscripts, hta, data management from SIMS (mySQL, postgres) and an intranet for the staff and students(htm, asp, php) as well as normal daily duties of 'Break-Fix'.

 

Hope to be able to contribute to this forum as well as learn a few new things on the way.

I'm Rhydian Edwards, I've just started my first job since leaving Uni as IT "person" at Ysgol Bro Ddyfi, Machynlleth (you may recognise this as Tarquel's patch, but as he's moving on to pastures new I'm his replacement...) I hope to be able to add to the edugeek experience and learn a lot from it.

 

My main interest is austin-rover cars with a side-order of classical music.

Hair I still got mine but since i am now supporting 2 schools i am losing it very fast even me hairdresser said are you sure you want me to cut it its falling out (must be a perk f the job i am told) welcome all and have fun.
