In the last few weeks I finished our digital strategy to take us through to 2030, and there's heaps to do, the majority of which is playing catch-up following years of underfunding by previous leadership. Luckily our leadership nowadays is pretty interested in tech (although first to admit they are not tech savvy - just aware it's extremely important and needs to be taken seriously!) and are willing to work with me, but the funding is always tight, so we have had to make some interesting decisions! Mainly including the entire network infrastructure refresh being undertaken completely within house - i.e. myself and a colleague whose official job is nothing to do with ICT whatsoeover, but oversees the bigger picture alongside me. So that will be fun. Fortunately, the vast majority of the cabling is intact and of reasonable age and quality so will not need wholesale replacement, just a few bits here and there for things that are being moved, but even so, it's something neither one of us has done before! I will quite happily share whatever knowledge or opinions etc I can but don't be surprised if you find me asking how to achieve something ludicrous or daft in the name of lack of funds or time etc... When I'm not being a techy geek I have a penchant for owning stupid cars, so although I daily a lovely, comfortable, reliable Skoda, my "toy" is a 2003 Land Rover Discovery 2 with the TD5 engine, hence my username - I love those engines... when they work... a feeling I often have with things at work, too. 😂 Cheers, Roo Good to see you on here! 1

I'm on my 3rd one now but have owned this one for almost 2 years and done a huge amount of work to it myself with more to come, although nowadays I find myself with less time (and the odd health issue) so some of the absolute biggest jobs I pay Mark at Green Oval to do. Head swap coming up....! It's a weapon though, great fun, done thousands and thousands of miles and would do them all again. I've also recently nominated myself for staff governor at work so that shows you how much of a glutton for punishment I really am... 1 1

I used to call mine a variety of names, mainly 'Just Stay Fixed You Utter *******!'. You fix one thing then the next breaks a week or so later. 1

I used to be active here years ago but forgot my account. I'm back here as I'm considering a pivot back to some form of hands on IT role.. last time I was active, I was deploying Win 2012 servers and imaging XP/win7 machines. A lot has changed... I was last here in 2019 back when I was a mere apprentice looking after a Worcestershire Trust of Primary Schools. I took a break for a few years to work in 2 Education MSPs (one of which has presence here, so hello to any Concero Education Techs) I’m now back in an onsite Network Manager role for a SEN Independent School just outside Tewkesbury, feeling a lot wiser than when I was last here. I hope to stick around a bit more this time! ☺️ 4

Working in a primary school with a team of 2 alongside a network manager. As a primary, we have a number of non-technical staff (e.g. TAs, SMSAs), who don't use a computer and access everything with their phone, so any time the LA change the MFA settings on iTrent, we get many people coming for help accessing their payslips. It is beyond the capabilities of some staff.

After being a part of the EduGeek community since 2018, I’ve had to start from scratch with a new account after losing access to my old one. It’s definitely strange being back to "new member" status, but it’s good to be back in the mix. I’m sure a few familiar faces will recognize the surname, I spent most of my time here buried in network and wireless threads or the geeky hobby threads, so I imagine I’ve crossed paths with a fair few of you.
