Hello everyone!

 

This is my first post so hope some of you could offer some advice.

 

I've recently replaced all of our monitors with nice big 24" ones that look lovely at 1920 x 1080 which is great and you'd think would make for nice happy users. Not so. The problem arises with the teacher PC that controls the IWB. Our old monitors were 17" CRTs that I had inherited with a little VGA splitter to send 1024 x 768 to both monitor and projector. No bother. IWBs are square, the new monitors are rectangle - so a clone looks crap on the monitor or IWB, whichever way around it is. I knew this before I did it so bought a load of cheap dual-output graphics cards and configured them seperately to their native resolutions with an extended desktop setup. Now the users can't/won't grasp how this works despite showing them lots of times and want (seriously) their old monitors back. They've already been melted down and turned into spitfires or something by now though so no chance of that.

 

Our IWBs are getting quite old now and I love the look of the massive LCD touchscreens. No calibration, clones easily, kids don't block the projector, the list goes on for the pros. The only cons I can see are smaller size which I don't think would be too much of a problem and possibly durability. I work in a special needs school where equipment takes a lot of punishment. I was looking at the big 55" Iiyama one and couldn't find anything about durability on their site or resellers sites. I can't find any reviews either. Does anyone on here have any experience with these especially with regards to how tough they are?

VERY expensive compared to a IWB in the first case but they are great bits of kit.

 

I know but I think the boss might be game for it. I just don't want to spend £30,000 ish and them all be smashed within a year. You got any?

I've got a few, they're very tough. Keep in mind you'll need to buy a smart license for each display if your staff intend to use smart notebook (5-600 each).

 

You should be able to get a company out to do a demo with one...

There are some companies who bundle Smart Notebook with the product (I know BenQ do with their new touch screen).

 

CleverLCD have their own offering (Lynx). We have 8 of the CleverLCD's now and the newer model are much better than the old model (inbuild speakers, plug and play etc).

 

@Millgate could organise a demo i'm sure for most stuff, Luke organised our stuff with Sahara for the CleverLCD :)

Dont have any but I have kicked one right in the middle once (under the direction of the sales guy I might say) and it was working fine after :)

They aren't *that* expensive in comparison. A projector + IWB + install comes to about £2k for a good quality projector and smart board. A 65" CleverTouch LCD comes in at about £2.5k + install. However, if you want to continue using SMART Notebook, or Promethean's one etc... then you need licenses to do so. A SMART Notebook collaborative license is about £560 ish.

 

We've got about 4 of them here. The teacher's love them. However, we're now standardising on Epson interactive projectors instead, as they're half the price up front (not my decision on this one).

Freeze function is something the CleverLCD's lack as well :) The way around this is to use extended desktop but then you lose interactivity on the second screen (your large touchscreen....). Kinda pointless

I dont understand how they can leave out that and still advertise to schools.

 

Hardly any of our teachers here use it, so it isn't really a function I look for when buying our equipment!

Okay - so in our IT room we have 2 TVs replicating the teachers machine - teacher puts up a powerpoint - then wants to actually use her PC for more then displaying the ppt during the lesson. How do your staff do this?
