[mdt] Deplying an App with Command Line

Hi Guys,

 

Just a quick one - where is the best place to deploy an app using MDT when needing to use a command line? The command I want to put in there installs Windows Movie Maker Live 2012. The command works from the desktop but I want to automate it.

 

Any help appreciated,

If the installer is located on a network share somewhere (such as a subfolder of netlogon), just create a .cmd batch file and stick your install command line in that. Then in MDT add an application and point it to the cmd

Easy task that one most of what you will need to know (command line switches to only install Movie Maker) is here - Deploy Windows live movie maker / Live Essentials 2011 | Compit.se

 

Make sure you get the offline installer of Windows Live Essentials and then import it as a application with a set of source files in MDT (right click applications and import).

Attached is a screenshot of one of my apps. This one isn't quite as basic as what can be done but it shows 3 things:

 

1) The command line in MDT which launches the .cmd file

2) The contents of the .cmd file

3) The installer package which I have also put with the cmd to save having to stick it in a share

Just to clarify the above, I created the .cmd file and put it into a folder along with the installer. Then in MDT go to add an application with source file, point to the folder just created and set the install command to be the name of the .cmd file.

Yeah - just done all of that and the install failed. Troubleshooting now.

Did you put your installer on a seperate server? Where is your cmd stored? On your mdt server in that .applications directory?

I would set up a folder like suggested in in post 6 and put both your install cmd/vbs there and the actual application in there. Then import in and it will put it on your server. Post your script as well if you like and I will run my eye over it been doing packages for the last couple of days so I can spot anything obvious. There is also some good examples of VB script for these MDT installs as well from one of the John Ardwick Deployment books which you can use which plays nicer with MDT as it will do logging and use some of the functions already declared in MDT.
