All it required was just not respond to the thread if you didn't want a fellow forum member on your contact list. The question was honest and legitimate, no offense at all was intended. I'm very grateful that EduGeek has been there for me whilst I've been "developing" my way in the industry so maybe it can be there for FN too.

I don't think what he asked was major all was needed was polite answer saying why you were not sure about giving your email. This appears as the MSN button below their post (which is how you got mine ... I don't have a problem with this otherwise I would not have it in my profile!) One thing you need to be aware of (as do a few others) is the fact that people may not be easily able to just respond to queries from others via IM. Many of us have very busy jobs (someone has to tell war stories to the minions!) and we may not be able to respond immediately. Some of us may not wish to spend all day answering questions that could also be solved by using the benevolent god 'Google'. Some of us may already have had to spend a few hours in the evening talking to people that are looking to get a leg up in the world of IT but could actually do with spending a bit more time at College to get the same amount of information (and get lovely certificates at the end of it!) That is my main concern about people using my IM details ... they are there for emergencies, for colleagues or for friends (and yes ... I am happy to say I actually have some ... and I am honoured by the fact that a number of them are EduGeekers!) As for BoFH ... I have a lovely polished box with a Bokken inside ... it has written on the glass, 'in case of luser, break glass and LART!' ... I will eventually get my etherkiller framed too.

I am not against anything, i am open to new ideas and suggestions constantly, however i am not afraid to voice my opinion (mainly to my management team) if i think something can be improved or approached from a different angle. What's all this about Jabber anyway :?:

That way, members can do im style chatting via edugeek and also from jabber clients if they can do. It would be similar to an edugeek IRC channel, but without IRC and its inherent stigma within many organisations.

Thats what i am against. There should be seperate proxie for techies and the rest (teachers and kids!)
localzuk Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 That would be the idea though, to have a web client available via edugeek for those of us who have normal jabber communication blocked. This is also why it would have to be members only, as otherwise it may be noticed by kids and turned into a chatroom.
