Use of Images of students on a website

Hey all.

Does your institution have set guidelines/consent forms for the use of images of under 18s in promotional materials such as the school website?

We have the rule: No children in any public material.

 

So, no pics of kids in newsletters, websites etc...

Yes. Every parent has to complete a set of forms on joing the school... this includes the usual Emergency Contacts, Medical Details, ICT AUP & Picture Consent (there is the option to refuse)

 

We never use names with photos. We do use images of children on our website and in our publicity material (prospectus, etc)

The theory is that photos are only published if the students cannot be personally identified, e.g. "pictured from left to right are...", but this doesn't always make it as far as practice, and of course isn't possible if it is a photo of only one student. I think that we are more strict on enforcing this when the photos are of the Junior School kids than the Seniors/Sixth Formers.

 

I think that the parents have all signed consent forms. When we recently had one student pictured on a giant poster (the kind you get at bus stops) we sought separate parental consent.

We get specific information from parents if we wish to use a picture of their son / daughter on our school newsletter or the website. All consent is gained before the picture goes anywhere near the public eye.

Our LEA have defined rules for us.

 

We're not allowed to show photos together with names identifying kids in the photo.

If we do case studies on schools, we use stock photo by and large, which gets around it.

 

Only bother is finding stock photo with a similar uniform to yours

we have one of them forms sent out every year just to

make extra sure
