badders Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 This is the error I'm getting. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
ICTNUT Posted April 23, 2010 Author Posted April 23, 2010 This is the error I'm getting. Have you enabled remote connections to the SQL server?

Is it a straight forward upgrade from Pro to Enterprise? Any news on the documentation for e-mail polling? I'm actually considering going back to version one in order to get this working now. Thanks

ICTNUT Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 I get this error when I browse to the site from a client PC, if I try connecting from the server I receive a with Is the SQL Server database on the same server as the website or a remote server? What version of SQL Server are you using?
badders Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 The SQL server datbase is on the same server as the website. SQL2008Express, Server 2008, IIS7
ICTNUT Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 The SQL server datbase is on the same server as the website. SQL2008Express, Server 2008, IIS7 Do you have SQL Server Management Studi Installed and can you connect to it, i.e. start it
badders Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 SQL Server Management Studio is installed and I can login into it as sa and attach databases and create users.
ICTNUT Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 SQL Server Management Studio is installed and I can login into it as sa and attach databases and create users. OK I am assuming you have not done anything with the SQL configuration manager. If you go start -> Programs ->SQL Server 2008 -> SQL Configuration Manager and once open click on the [+] next to SQL Server Network Configuration and then Protocols for SQL Express. Is named pipes and TCP/IP enbaled? if not you will need to enable them. Next if you click on SQL Server Services you will need to ensure the SQL Browser Service is running, simply right click on the service and select start. Once you have done the above try to access the helpdesk.
badders Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Named pipes and TCP/IP are enabled and the browser service is running.
ICTNUT Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 Named pipes and TCP/IP are enabled and the browser service is running. Is there a firewall running on this Server?
badders Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 The firewall on the server is turned off, as is the firewall on the client PC.
ICTNUT Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 The firewall on the server is turned off, as is the firewall on the client PC. Well your SQL server is not happy talking with other applications, any chance of remote access to figure this out for you? PM me with your email if this is an option.
joe90bass Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Many thanks for the E-Mail poller KB. It's working now. Still have a few issues though - sorry! The support e-mail group is getting SLA breach e-mails, but not info on when jobs are received via e-mail or jobs closed. Users are also not getting an acknowledgement of their e-mail request being received or their incident closed as used to happen in MLH. The web config file looks all okay to me, but I must have missed something! Cheers
