Ephelyon Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Now I'm finding the stable version will run on the terminal server and will import, but then none of these imported e-mail addresses are actually showing up in the SIMS staff records...
Ephelyon Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Got it to the stage where it'll import (type initialiser error with the previous SIMS user), but if they've already got an e-mail address it won't overwrite Main and Primary. (Sorry for all the posts...)
matt40k Posted December 7, 2013 Author Posted December 7, 2013 Sounds like you need to set the email location - home\work\other. the issue with the crashing is it's waiting on the sims api/business objects to return the data, in that version i think it was only one thread so it appears to crash, I'd recommend importing a year group at a time and being very patience, SIMS isn't known for its speed!!
Ephelyon Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 I had it set to Work, Overwrite Main, Overwrite Primary. In the end I set it to Work, Overwrite Main, No Primary and then went through them all setting the Primary value. We're alright now. Thanks for the assistance
plumtech Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Hi All, Fantastic tool! however for some reason I cant change the drop down to set it to work email for staff, any ideas? Thanks Jack
matt40k Posted March 4, 2015 Author Posted March 4, 2015 Try v2 - SIMS Bulk Import - Download: SIMS Bulk Import 2.2.11
plumtech Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Perfect thank you, just not overwriting the main and primary fields but that's no biggie. Thanks again!
matt40k Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 Problem with the overwriting the primary\main is the darn SIMS API, its basically a two step process, one unset the primary\main on the current one, THEN input the email\telephone (as primary\main). It's on my future list, its just not very high I'm afraid on my To-Do
HC_Netman Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Hi @matt40k is there a limit to the number of records you can import? Mine keeps crashing out after it has read about 30 lines - this is pre - import when it goes through and checks the data against the Sims record... Any ideas? Cheers
matt40k Posted May 1, 2015 Author Posted May 1, 2015 Nope, no limit. I've had a few thousand without any problems. Check the log file, might give a clue to why its crashing out.
HC_Netman Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Error: System.InvalidOperationException: "An ItemsControl is incosistent with its items source." I have 7 separate files - (one for each year group) the error is the same no matter which file I try and it always errors on the 34th record.
ozydave Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Just come across this tool. Must have been living in a cave! I trying to import students email addresses. My test student imports ONLY if I leave the 'main' field at default. What should the spreadsheet contain in the 'Main' column when its imported? is it a '1' , 'yes' or 'y' Do I really need to set it as main? only reason I am trying to do it is because the all the other student records contain it. Cheers
limawhiskey Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I had it set to Work, Overwrite Main, Overwrite Primary. In the end I set it to Work, Overwrite Main, No Primary and then went through them all setting the Primary value. We're alright now. Thanks for the assistance Do you mean a second pass with the import or did you manually set the work emails as primary? I'm having the same problem trying to get 200 staff email addresses imported
CyBeRkId2002 Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 Just found out about this as we are looking at getting students school email addresses on to SIMs (for schoolcomms). Sure am gutted to find out it has disappeared (...hint hint...). Would love to have had a look over it (...hint hint...). I hear v2.5.0 was the latest (...hint hint...)
limawhiskey Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 (edited) I had no idea this was gone [emoji20] It was very useful while it lasted. In case anyone else was wondering: Where has SIMS Bulk Import gone? | Matt40k Edited July 27, 2018 by elsiegee40 3
gspooner Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 Hi Mtt, i found your thread when I was looking for help importing user logins into a Sims udf but the link no longer works. Is it still available somewhere - it looks incredibly useful. thank you
Bev Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 I am also looking for this tool, is it still available?
matt40k Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 Nope. Capita killed it off when they said whoever took it on would get slapped with a large licensing bill. Few copies floating around you could try but yer... no comment, big disclaimer. 1
Bev Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 What a shame. Would have saved me a lot of work

coolhands Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 they've just posted this. Perhaps Matt40k Dear Colleague, Capita SIMS are investigation how we can make the process of bulk importing Student’s Email and Telephone numbers into SIMS a better experience then the currently provided patch process. We have an idea how we are going to solve this, but would like to have the opportunity to discuss this with a selected group of people that represent SIMS users. The meeting will be limited to around 10 people to make sure everyone is at ease commenting on the proposed solution. Date and Time: Thursday 19th December 14:00 Duration: 45 minutes Host: Paul Featherstone (Senior Product Manager) Invite Link: https://capita.webex.com/capita/j.php?RGID=rb8165ff52e7a43990ef870bc1c217783 Important Note: You will need to register BEFORE the session to receive meeting details and to also allow Paul to control participant numbers Additional information: please email [email protected] Kind Regards Paul Featherstone Senior Product Manager could go?: 2
1TF0rward Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 they've just posted this. Perhaps Matt40k could go?: This will be really useful for us. This is preventing a lot of O365 integration. If you or anyone is attending I'll be very interested in the outcome.
matt40k Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 Glad they are finally integrating it into SIMS - it’s only taken them over 7 years. Tis a shame they didn’t allow SalamanderSoft to take it over. Think it would have made a lot of their paying customers happy. Oh well. Be interested to hear how people find it - I would expect them to have a fairly polished version they are going to demo tomorrow. Hopefully it’s worth the wait and money!
