J_Worth Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Hello everyone! I was just wondering if anybody knows where I can get the SIMS.net Green Abbey School training data from as I would like to test out some things in SIMS but would rather not use the "real" SIMS data and would also not like to make a duplicate of our "real" SIMS data. The main reason for this is that I would like to install SIMS.net on a standalone laptop computer. Thanks in advance, J. Worth.
PhilNeal Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 I'm afraid that we supply the Green Abbey training data under contract to support units.
matt40k Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 It's better to use actual data as the training data is only 1 of about a million options, so it may work in training but it might not work in your actual data. Plus you have to keep downloading it, otherwise you end up with out of date data - for example, running an attendance query with months of missing marks isn't going to be much help.

Thanks It would be pretty pointless, you can pretty much guarantee it'll work in the training database as Capita's tested it, the LA's have tested it. Your best bet is to setup a test environment and have you last night backup restored onto it. That way your testing your backup solution at the same time. Bob Carswell wrote a pretty good guide about doing this.
PhilNeal Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 FN-GM - the training database (& materials) is maintained by a dedicated team its being updated daily. This is paid for by the support team charge so it wouldn't be fair to give it away to others.

matt40k Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Again, what are you planning on testing on the data? It's most likely not going to be fit for purpose anyway. PS: Support team pay ALOT more then schools do. ALOT.
Sivadam Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 I have a stand alone laptop that I use for beta testing of SIMS when these releases are available (and when I have time!). This is maintained with a copy of our own SIMS Database, whenever I wish to do some testing. Why don't you follow that route? 1
Edu-IT Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 It's not difficult to grab a backup of your live data and copy it over to the test environment. Probably just as easy as downloading the dummy data from Capita every 5 minutes?
