Hey!

I'm not sure if this type of question has been asked before but what type of person i.e. technician, network manager / pay scale etc... Would you expect a primary school with approaching 700 pupils, 70 staff members and around 180 computers to have?

Thanks, Paul.

it varies completly with Primarys - it could be anywhere from 13/14k through to 22k FTE (full time equivalent as some are Term Time only).

It completely depends on attitude of Headteacher - there are no rules or anything - its unlikely that any primary school is over-resourced though :)

Yep depends entirely on the school's attitude.

Currently I work for three primary schools but am moving to work solely at the largest one (about same size as OPs). They have the attitude that as IT is critical to the running of the school they need to pay a fair wage for the job. However I also see the exact opposite attitude in other schools.

I look after several primary schools, a couple of which are approaching this size. They employ me 4 hours a week to act as network manager and a TA for a couple of hours each day to look after the day to day issues and log faults they can't handle.

I forgot to say - if just managing a network/computers and paying someone else/company to install and set things up, then the school doesn't need as much on-site time.

...conversely, if they only pay for three hours a day, term-time only, then other companies HAVE to come and install and set things up as there is no time to do so...

Approx 1700 pupils / 165 Staff / 425 machines

Made me think and I've totalled up 6 schools, 1120

pupils,116 staff and 340 machines

Its a good job that either that they

A. Work well most of the time and don't require attention

or

B. Don't work well but staff can't find Helpdesk icon :)

But I would have thought that even a guru as yourself would require a few extra days in holiday time/weekends/evenings to do a XP/w2k3 to Win7/w2k8 across a large school in any sort of short term timescale :)
