glennda Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 For all of you on BT broadband lines at work - you probably can't read this but its down across half of england. From traceroutes seems to be part of BT main core... Woops! http://btbusiness.custhelp.com/app/service_status
glennda Posted July 5, 2012 Author Posted July 5, 2012 And ironically the page is not displaying for me... It didn't for me first time around - broadband appears to have come back now! Although originally it said expected ETA 3pm! who unplugged the routers?
witch Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 So when I get to my other job tomorrow I will no doubt get "The network went down AGAIN" *sigh-
Oaktech Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 So when I get to my other job tomorrow I will no doubt get "The network went down AGAIN" *sigh- Then the answer is "No, MY network did not 'go down'. SOMEONE ELSE'S network, over which I have NO control went down. Heres the number to call and complain, don't moan at me about it"
glennda Posted July 5, 2012 Author Posted July 5, 2012 No issues here on the BT ADSL connetion. Ben was about 15/20 mins - is it a business line? not sure if home network was affected. It appeared to be a the very core of the network HOP 7 was down. 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.222.1 2 60 ms 99 ms 99 ms 10.0.0.138 3 13 ms 14 ms 13 ms losubs.subs.dsl3.th-lon.zen.net.uk [62.3.84.25] 4 13 ms 13 ms 13 ms ge-2-1-0-131.cr2.th-lon.zen.net.uk [62.3.84.253] 5 13 ms 13 ms 13 ms ge-2-0-0-0.cr1.th-lon.zen.net.uk [62.3.80.41] 6 13 ms 13 ms 13 ms linx2.ukcore.bt.net [195.66.236.10] 7 21 ms 14 ms 15 ms core1-te0-8-0-7.faraday.ukcore.bt.net [109.159.255.100] 8 14 ms 14 ms 13 ms acc1-10GigE-0-2-0-2.l-far.21cn-ipp.bt.net [109.159.249.28] 9 14 ms 15 ms 15 ms 109.159.249.96 10 22 ms 22 ms 23 ms 213.120.183.6 11 25 ms 77 ms 24 ms 213.120.179.186 12 55 ms 50 ms 51 ms 217.41.169.108 13 23 ms 23 ms 23 ms 217.41.169.206 14 26 ms 25 ms 25 ms 213.120.181.93 15 55 ms 50 ms 48 ms Client Trace complete.

glennda Posted July 5, 2012 Author Posted July 5, 2012 My Modems came back up with 172.16.x.x addresses! on external interfaces? Have they changed back?
enjay Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 We got hit by this too - never had issues on our BT-operated ADSL line, but we've had a few problems on our BT Infinity. Tempted to get a second Internet line put in so next time this happens, we can just switch over to the other one and carry on; Internet access is too critical nowadays. The irony is, when I phoned BT, their automated message suggested I check their service status web page. Um, one problem with that suggestion... The second irony is that I was taking loads of phone calls about it, but couldn't tell everyone because we use a web-based email system! Time to look at a netsend-esque messaging system, methinks.
strawberry Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 on external interfaces? Have they changed back? Yup, Was about 20 mins downtime before they sorted themselves out. Had all 3 modems with them
Geoff Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Fail over kicked in and brought up the second line. Never noticed a thing
SYNACK Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Fail over kicked in and brought up the second line. Never noticed a thing Did your router not alert you to the failure condition?
SYNACK Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Only when two providers go down. Then how do you know to yell at ISP X to get their link back up incase ISP Y drops out?
Geoff Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 We get cash back as part of the SLA for outages. So that never happens.
SYNACK Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Ah, quality internet. I have heard of it, but only in stories
glennda Posted July 5, 2012 Author Posted July 5, 2012 Fail over kicked in and brought up the second line. Never noticed a thing Some of my clients who where affected are 5 people in a front room type businesses - all our large customers are not silly enough to use BT. I just got a flurry for phonecalls from various sites and lots of emails telling me agents where unable to be contacted on our monitoring system.
Geoff Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Ah, quality internet. I have heard of it, but only in stories For £2500/month I should hope so.
twin--turbo Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 We get cash back as part of the SLA for outages. So that never happens. We have had to claim against BT SLA's a couple of times. The last one was when we were opening our new building, a OpenReach sub contractor was rodding a duct to try and get the copper lines into the new building. Instead they rodded right through our inter site fiber... Nedless to say OReach had to come out, sort the fiber and finish the copper job themeself Outage started at 13:30... And I waved goodbye to the OR engineer at 7:50PM. Rob
