deleted camera card images

Hi all, I have just had a member of staff come and see me all upset. She leant her camera to some children yesterday and rather than just taking pics, they deleted all of her other photos on the SD card, is there some software to be able to recover the deleted images?

Used Free Pandora File Recovery - Find and recover deleted files of any type. a few times before, but not used it anytime recently so not sure how good it is compared to others out there (Used to be free for install version, paid for "mobile" version)

Usuualy however there is a hiddent Trash.0000 or something similar on the memory card.

It is possible; a few years ago I recovered our Deputy Head's Silver Wedding photos that had been deleted in error. (Oh boy was I in her good books after that )

 

I have to admit to googling for file recovery programs, finding a free one and trying it... it worked I'm ashamed to say that I have no idea what I used though.

 

It is possible that you won't get all the pictures back as some may have been over-written.

 

In our school, staff are not allowed to use personal cameras or phones for taking photographs in school. This may be a good rule for yours!

Hi all, many thanks for your advice on this one, well I have now used two different programs, both Panda and Recuva, but sadly with very limited success, it has found 1700 images and has recovered them, but despite it stating that they are JPEG's they just wont open, I dont know what else to do, the files appear to be the correct size as well, just under 2 MB - any further advice?

Unfortunately if the pupils deleted then possibly took new pictures, the data on the memory card would be overwritten.

 

At this point it's extremely difficult, if not impossible without some data recovery companies getting involved. You can be talking £100's though depending on the work required. Free data recovery programs will only do so much.

I have carried out some additional information and it appears that the jpeg files that wont open with windows photoviewer, will apprently open with Photoshop, and when saved in that program will then open normally, unfortunately I do not have Photoshop, could anyone suggest an alternative?

How about GIMP? GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

+1 for Photorec.

 

If Gimp works for the recovered files, it has batch conversion which might be a timesaver...(often use IrfanView for this).

Try irfanview. It's free and it also has a batch processing feature, so you can just chuck it a folder full of images and let it work it's magic.
