rf600 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Morning, As I know there's quite a few camera people and some divers on here. I'm after a waterproof camera for snorkling and generally being thrown around, so need something fairly tough, has anyone got one or had one? looking around the 100-250 quid mark Cheers in advance J
MYK-IT Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Although video, I've used a Flip Ultra HD with waterproof housing for snorkelling (claims to be ok to 30 feet, sorry 9-10 meters) I'm a diver (bit no camera expert / photographer) but some members at the club have the Fuji cameras (500 series) below: Fuji F80 EXR Camera & Housing Dive Bundle by Fujifilm Dive Cameras Fuji F500 EXR Underwater Bundle by Fujifilm Dive Cameras Fuji F550 EXR Underwater Bundle by Fujifilm Dive Cameras Fuji F660 EXR Underwater Bundle by Fujifilm Dive Cameras
Oaktech Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 for general use the nikon aw100 is difficult to beat, my friends took it on their tour or the far east and have been doing all sorts of things, including coasteering with it.
DeltaBravo Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 As Cookeh said, GoPro for the win! They are the best action cameras you can get at the moment.
rad Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 But for still pictures the GoPro isn't the best camera available. We have the Pentax Optio W80 ourselves, the InLaws have the next model down and SiL was the next one down from that. We use them when snorkelling in Scilly Isles and also when we go sailing. Its a dust, waterproof and shockproof camera that works well in most conditions, has loads of features and is easy to use and clear under water. If you are after a video camera, then the GoPro is a great action camera as above, it doesnt float and is only waterproof inside its housing (down to 60 meters i believe). If you do buy one add a floaty back door and also teather it to yourself. There are video clips on YT of cameras gone to the bottom of rivers etc, they were lucky, other people are not. 1
Oaktech Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 i can add a vote of confidence for the pentax, it does most of the things the nikon does, doesn't feel so solid, but is still very capable and an order of magnitude cheaper!
chazzy2501 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 as said above the gopro hd HERO have a stellar reputation. I've seen the 60fps footage time stretched to a virtual 1000fps and it looks amazing. The wideangle lens captues so much. I'd buy one if I did any extreme sport. not the best example but below gives you an idea. They can also be setup for timelapse. They have well made waterproof enclosures (most kits include them) and mounts for helmet ect.

rf600 Posted June 25, 2012 Author Posted June 25, 2012 Had a look at the gopro, but I'm looking more for photos than videos and thought the gopro was more setup for video. also had a look at the panasonic FT4 but it doesn't get great reviews and gps seems a bit of a waste on me
DeltaBravo Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Gopro's can do some impressive photos If you’re on facebook search for GoPro and they have a photo of the day album, which will give you an idea of the quality you’re getting. 1
