enjay Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I'm trying to get hold of a 1VGA-to-2VGA splitter cable, so we can have a monitor and a projector on our IWBs. We've bought some in the past, but our supplier no longer stocks them - I've found one at Videk but £14 seems a bit steep considering I think I only paid a few quid last time. Does anyone know where else I can get these from?
Busybub Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I make a point of no longer using them as I find that they introduce a faint double image into the picture. Used to use powered VGA splitters, but I find dual output graphics cards are cheaper these days! PM me with an address, I have a spare one you can have.
enjay Posted June 7, 2007 Author Posted June 7, 2007 try ebuyer, we get most of our stuff from them That's the supplier which no longer stocks them! :-)

Yes, we've noticed that ghost image before too, but only on the monitor not the projector for some reason. I didn't think of dual output cards, though - thanks!
strawberry Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 try aquarius computer supplies, i found them on amazon, 2 splitters for £6. Just for a giggle, try disconnecting the projector and leaving the monitor plugged in!, took me 5 minutes of twiddling to figure that one out last time our ict staff had a rewire.
Busybub Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Only thing I would mention about the graphics cards if you decide to go down that route, is to make sure that any DVI output is dual standard and will support a VGA output (DVI-I). This is important as many monitors (especially 15" jobbies which match the resolution of most projectors) only have the VGA input. Heebeejeebee Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 £12.95 for a spliiter/amplifier v £14 for a splitter cable that leaves a ghost image. We had exactly the same problem and now we use only powered spliiters from Ash Distribution HBJB
plexer Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I recently used the 2 ouputs on the back of a video card in our shuttle machines for this. Wasn't sure if it would work as sone was analogue and the other dvi, the neovo monitors had dvi in so I hooked that one up and then the projector to the analogue. Works like a champ. Ben
Halfmad Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Insight and Equanet (inmac) do them, you do get a bit of ghosting on screen though but our staff don't seem to mind. I'm out of the office just now or I'd look up my past orders and send you the part numbers. If you haven't found them by tomorrow I'll post them on here!
alan-d Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 We use Daxton Monitor splitters on all ours (40 of them) and so far no problems. (You just know that sentence is going to be the kiss of death - don't you? )

We had exactly the same problem and now we use only powered spliiters from Ash Distribution HBJB 13 for the powered one is about as cheap as I've seen, they used to go for 30 when I last looked. On the other hand you can get a PCI-E dual output graphics jobbie with passive heatsink for 18 quid which will work in standard slots or low profile with adaptors, and you don't need to find an additional power socket on your wall or an extra VGA lead to the splitter. http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=396319 AGP jobbies are a bit more.
Andie Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 We've used Reveal Cables before, and so far they are reliable and quick. If I've found the right thing (and these aren't powered), the price range is £4.18 to about £8. The link is below (the VGA splitters are near the bottom of the page): http://www.revealcable.co.uk/acatalog/SVGA_and_VGA_monitor_cables.html#aAA1832
farmerste Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 if you are using a LCD monitor, and a projector out of an unpowered repeater, you might have some problems if you just rely on the lead to send the signal i'd get a powered splitter personally
enjay Posted June 8, 2007 Author Posted June 8, 2007 i'd get a powered splitter personally They take up desk space, though, which is limited in some of our installation locations. Plus, by the time you've plugged in the PC, monitor, printer, Bluetooth desktop set and video/DVD player, there's not always a socket free for the splitter box.
contink Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 We had a bunch of these that worked fine on some older systems but for some reason where resulting in blank screens when I plugged them into onboard VGA ports.. Had to resort to powered splitter units instead..
Halfmad Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 http://www.equanet.com/catalogue/item/vidpcc18 I'm not an enormous fan of them but they are extremely cheap and do the job. Some supplied cables seem to give slightly less ghosting than others but it's always present. I'm suggesting dual output cards now instead but these as a backup for departments that don't want the "expense" of a clear projection.
enjay Posted June 8, 2007 Author Posted June 8, 2007 http://www.equanet.com/catalogue/item/vidpcc18 Interesting - those are clearly the things which I found at Videk; the VID~ prefix is one clue, and the manufacturer's part number is the same as the stock code at Videk - but... they're half the price Videk are asking for them!!
Geoff Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 PC World Business also sell it for the same price. http://www.pcwb.com/catalogue/item/VIDPCC18?speedtrapid=froogle&lead=froogle
mrforgetful Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Always use a powered device, and space can't be that limited!
Halfmad Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 PC World Business also sell it for the same price. http://www.pcwb.com/catalogue/item/VIDPCC18?speedtrapid=froogle&lead=froogle PCWorld/Equanet/Inmac are all the same company. You should get a discount for being an education establishment though, they won't cost £6
ConTheITGuy Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Good old CPC? Though I do like the sound of the dual head graphics cards, I've thought of this before. You could have the desktop extended so that your ACTIVStudio flp (or Smart et al. equivalent) is left on the board while you (or rather the teacher!) get's on with something else - like take the register! Now if only I had a budget so that I could order 30 odd new graphics cards... Andy
enjay Posted June 11, 2007 Author Posted June 11, 2007 Thanks Andy - those CPC ones are more like the price I wanted to pay. I do like your idea of extended desktops though, I hadn't thought of that - one of the teachers who is about to get a IWB for the first time asked if this was possible, and I said 'no'. Time to re-evaluate perhaps...
ICT_GUY Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 49P Amazon, and I have used this seller before, quick and painless. Amazon 49p vga splitter (postage is extra though)
tarquel Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 I got one once... and never again. Was just too poor of a output. Think the powered ones I get / got are about £30 from Insight. Nath.
