[android] Samsung Galaxy S3

Hi all,

 

I'm currently an Iphone 4 user and now that my contract is up I am looking for a change. I have been looking at the S3 and tbh it looks awesome. Anybody else got one or more importantly taken the plunge and ditched Apple to go with Android? I don't know if I should just wait to see what the Iphone 5 is like or take a risk and go for it.

 

any thoughts from you guys would be great,

I've got one and I like it. It's got a nice big screen, loud clear speakers, very fast OS, lots of storage etc etc. As a bonus, Samsung / Dropbox give you a 50gb Dropbox account for free! Only oddity I have found so far is that the backlight doesn't appear to work when browsing the internet, but that may be due to a setting I've changed.

yeah the OS does seem to run like lightning in the videos. What about apps? Iphone has a million, are the android ones just as good.

Millions upon millions of apps varying from cr@p to excellent. I've never had an iphone but I'd imagine that the most popular apps for iOS have been ported to Android.

I swapped at the weekend from an iPhone 4 to an S3.

 

Been a techy person it was quite easy to get used to. Love the ability to customise it - shortcuts to contacts on home screen, google on home screen, calendar and email on a swipe screen etc.

 

Most of the apps I wanted are there.

 

The screen and the speed of the OS are lightning fast.

I was considering the Galaxy S3 as it looks awesome! I'd never used Android until recently when we got a Samsung Galaxy Tab to have a play with at school. The OS is very good and for us techies its nice to have the freedom to customise and play. Im sure the S3 is even better than the Glaxy Tab. The only stumbling block I found was the lack of support for using a proxy to access the internet. You can browse the web fine but any app that uses the internet (Facebook, Play Store) wont work through a proxy. I cant say this is the same for the S3 but having done quite a bit of research it looks like its just how Android works.

 

You can get round this problem by rooting the device however thats not something i expect to have to do....... im holding out for the iPhone 5.

Go for the S3, I have 4s but tried the S3 & it is brilliant

ice cream sandwich update now allows for adding proxy settings into a wireless config but yet to try see if any apps follpw the proxy setting if i remember to will try at school tomorrow

If you lived in the US under US carriers, I could only recommend iPhone, since Samsung and the carriers NEVER update the Galaxy phones in the US. Also cannot stand the battery life on Androids, but that's another story. I do like my Galaxy SII, but I will never buy another Samsung after what they've done with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and never updating it, instead releasing an entirely new model with the same specs.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is without doubt one of the best mobile phones ever released, however it really is more than just a device for making phone calls.If we do the Comparison with other of Samsung Models and Nokia. It was very floated in market & News also that the Galaxy S3 is the competing Model with iPhone also. I decided to go for S3 after searching

The proxy settings in the wi-fi pages only work with the browser not system wide, it also doesn't allow you to specify authentication settings until you try and browse the web. It is the only thing that annoys me. It's the same on Jellybean and has been like this for sooooo long.

 

For those that have rooted, use Proxydroid, it works brilliantly. Allows for authenticated proxies and is a system wide app.
