Just finishing off 'virtualising' the remainder of our physical servers, and one of the last ones is Windows 2003 runing Heinemann Expo Electro 1 & 2.

I know that the FAQ states that Expo is not compatible with Windows 7/2008 but has anyone done it?

Install new on a 2008 R2 Server and migrate the SQL database across? or is it looking like a P2V conversion?

Many Thanks,

I didn't know that it wasn't compatible, our department use all 3 of the titles & I had assumed they would just transfer straight across. Not tried yet but I can't see a great compatibility issue. Which FAQ were you looking at that says it isn't compatible. Their website doesn't mention the web version at all now, seems to try and direct me to an ActiveTeach product.

Tried installing it on Server 2008R2 and it simply wouldn't let me during install. At some point I'll get a virtualised Server 2003 running for it...

Hi all, Just a quick update on my situation. I spoke to Pearson Publishing about this and was told that because of .net 1.1 compatibility this won't work with Server 2008. In the end I rebuilt a resonable spec workstation with 2003 (don't update .net whatever you do) to run the full suite and thats solved the issue for me.

So yet another congratulations is in order for Pearson for being incapable of producing software that works properly, and then keeping it up to date? They did the same thing with Metro Electro.

Thing is - they still sell this software. So, they are selling software that won't work on customer's systems.

Cheers for the heads up this is on our MFL list of wanted software I gather, that gets a bit rubber NO stamped over it then if it is this exact program.

Hi,

I've managed to get expo installed on a 2008R2 server it takes a bit of messing around in the registry and you have to install the Microsoft database software from command line and then in iis change the application pool from default to 1.1

haven't tested the software but the HMC console loads up. still in the process of getting it working/testing so will post the results and full method of how to do it. as I'm currently testing on VM server ready for the migration in the summer.
