X-13 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 I've been planning a new build for a while now, and with this news, it means I have a deadline now. I was hoping that prices for parts would go down but sadly not, infact some of it has gone up.. 3770k keeps going up in price. I did however get a Samsung 830 256 GB SSD for £140, which isnt bad. I don't have the space for a desktop, custom or otherwise. It's a laptop or nothing.
apeo Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 I don't have the space for a desktop, custom or otherwise. It's a laptop or nothing. To be fair if GW2 would run on my current rig, I may not be building a new one.
tarquel Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Pre-purchased this the other month and played the last beta weekend. Enjoyed what i saw, though hope it hooks me better than GW1 did (think other things stopped my more than the game did hehe) Dont recall what server i'm on, but happy to team up with folks
apeo Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Only a few more days till head start so what worlds will people be playing on?
CAM Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 But, yeah... I've been looking at GW2. But, the only thing I have for it is a crappy laptop. So, I'd probably have to get a new one... I also can't be bothered with sorting out the rewards... I started doing it on a new character, but then got overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff I have to do. [i haven't even finished the story...] Mmmm celery powered with integrated graphics and Vista. You will probably have just as terrible results trying to play GW2 on an actual stick of celery. Had any luck finding a replacement? As for GW2 itself, I've already been invited into a guild and the game looks awesome, but I'm holding fire to see the initial rush go past and if the game does live up to it's name. I will watch my brother deal with the server failures meanwhile!
Valentine Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Not sure which server i will be playing on yet but a few things to note... As no servers have been officially marked as "English/UK" other countries are picking servers to be their countries unofficial server, Ring of Fire - Russian, Blacktide - Polish. Although a lot of non UK people actually tend to speak English in game some really don't (Russians for example). Desolation and Gandara are the big UK ones but will most probably be full very quickly, and in GW2 when a server is full you can't create new characters on it so friends will be unable to join the server if not on it already. The Mainly UK ones are: Aurora glade Desolation Gandara Gunnar's Hold Seafarer´s Rest Check EU Guilds | GW2 Guilds - An up to date list of guilds for Guild Wars 2 for more info.
Dave84 Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Not sure which server I will be on either. It depends on which guild i join Good job we will get free server transfers to begin with. Not long to wait now!
ZeroHour Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 I want to go on a server where everyone is derp. It starts at midnight? Whats everyone going?
tarquel Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 (edited) Darn it.... i was awake then too.... didnt think to try before bed lol Desolation here i come EDIT: It was full.... Aurora Glade I'm on Edited September 3, 2012 by tarquel
Kitkatninja Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Can't wait for it, played GW1 a bit and enjoyed that. Just pre-ordered the standard version for £35, not to be confused with the pre-purchased standard version for £50 (with early access). So I should be getting the game hopefully on the 28th or 29th... Got next week off to do my OU project... Not sure what's going to happen now
flyinghaggis Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 My copy arrived today so in the process of installing it at the moment. Looks like there's 5gb of updates to download after the install so that's gonna take about 10 hours to download on my home broadband connection! Should be on tomorrow evening Did everyone join desolation ?
CAM Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I am on Gandara following my former Supergroup buddies from CoH. Name is Jorgir, human thief with a brace of pistols!
bondbill2k2 Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I am on Gandara following my former Supergroup buddies from CoH. Name is Jorgir, human thief with a brace of pistols! I'm on Aurora glade only played 10mins of it but enjoyed gw1. Add me bondbill
Mako Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 Completely missed updating this thread due to severe RL issues (moved house, broke my back but that's another fun tale). Just got internet in the house today. Me and my guild are on Gunnar's Hold. I realise now it's post-launch and most of you have made your choice but if you wish to hop over to Gunnar's Hold (or guest and have a look), shoot me a message. My character name is Mako Fargrath. Hope you're all enjoying the fun!
CAM Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Apparently server choice only affects WvWvW combat (that's a mouthful!). For PvE content it doesn't matter. My brother explained it to me. 1) You pick a home server which dictates who you fight for in PvP. 2) Add people to your friends list. 3) Form a party and you join the leader on his server! It also keeps punting people into an Overflow Server that is a mix of players from everywhere when they cannot get in to their home server. Unfortunately last night I found teaming broke with a new patch and had to solo.

Strange was working for me an my bro, and im on Gandara too... didnt know that home choice only affects PvP because I changed from Desolation to Gandara because Desolation was full and my bro couldnt join. Whats your guild like CAM?
CAM Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 It disbanded and reformed due to a bug. But I am on break already because NCSoft did something bad to the City of Heroes playerbase and we are now on boycott.
X-13 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Mmmm celery powered with integrated graphics and Vista. You will probably have just as terrible results trying to play GW2 on an actual stick of celery. Had any luck finding a replacement? Not Vista. And no, I haven't found a replacement yet. Mainly, because I haven't been looking. I got XBL at the beginning of the holiday and I've pretty much just been doing that. [Assassin's Creed multiplayer.] Plus, I've been generally slacking off from various projects I've decided to do... I really need to focus mo... oh, a kitty!
tarquel Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) I'm on Aurora Glade, not Desolation (thought i'd updated this but i guess not). I've been adding contacts using their username.number ID, as didn't think you can add ppl any other way as such (for info, when they switch character, you'll still see them as its account friendededed ). You can party up regardless of the World, at least chat-wise and the party is persistent when logging out/in too that i can see, and i even got party messages when i logged back in Also, I think you can party together for questing/adventuring within Overflow should you not be on the same servers Though initial server move is free [at least, it was when i looked at it] Little handy shortcut is Backspace for replying to the last /whisper you had Thats about all i can think of, other than such a delicious game really EDIT: Curses.... hadnt seen CAM's posts lol i didnt refresh before posting it seems hehe Edited September 3, 2012 by tarquel
apeo Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) Not in a guild at the moment Finding party creation easy enough but joining on the same map abit hit and miss. Sometimes its easy to end up on the same map or join on the same map but other times cant end up on the same map for love or money. When this happens, waiting for it to 'Travel' will get you on the same map but is annoying, as the wait is pretty random (depending on where you in the queue). Also moving between maps using gates can sometimes cause you to move to a different overflow maps. This is what I've found and I'm only in a party of 2 so having larger parties would be interesting. I'm sure they will sort it out eventually. Hope they sort out Trade soon as theres no nice way to get rid of the Green gear you find.. often end up just merchant them. flyinghaggis Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) I spent 2-3 hours playing it at the weekend but I'm struggling to get into it to be honest. Does it open up much after the first few hours play as it's starting to feel like a grind IMO? Just seems like WOW but not as polished on initial impressions? Edited September 3, 2012 by flyinghaggis
Mako Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 Moved to Piken Square. My guild currently has 45 members and growing. Gunnar's Hold is an immature server full of pvp-centralised players. Piken Square is the unofficial roleplay community which leads to a much more pleasant and friendlier community.
apeo Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Hmm dont think I can move to another server, as it would probably cost to move now Any friendly guilds on Gandarra? @flyinghaggis: Well I've never played WoW and I've only really played GW1 so I can't really make a comparison.
