Network monitoring

Hi all

 

Just wondering what other schools are using for network and server monitoring for performance, and failures? I have a few different tools but nothing great and would be nice to have everything together and preferably using a cheap or even better free set of tools! Anyone have any suggestions?

Easy to setup on any windows PC and they offer a decent discount (think it was 30% last time) for schools.

 

Covers pretty much everything and you don't need to know anything about *nix to setup/use it.

nagios : It takes a bit of work to set up but you will benefit from the exercise (in terms of knowledge of your network).

Nagios & Cacti - All free and fairly easy to set up if you have a tiny bit of Linux knowledge.

Nagios (Up/Down), Munin (Trends), Ossec (Log Shipping & IDS).

 

We do have a couple of things still on Cacti, but I greatly prefer Munin these days.

I Zax on android - we havn't quite setup push on android though - although tech using Jabber on Iphone and it works

Same here. I use Nconf to configure Nagios also, save editing config files by hand. And Nagios is tied into Spiceworks as well, so alerts appear on our Spiceworks dashboard.

10-Strike Network Monitor. As I have already said in another thread we use it for monitoring hosts and detecting failuries. its easy to use and the program has the wide choice of notifications if something happens.

 

Another one is 10-Strike LANState in addition can also create a map of the network.
