  1. The hope is that this will actually be a working sync client, where you don't have to "repair" the synced library every few months (and then having to match what files had and hadn't synced prior to the repair)! We've tried to use it with a number of staff as their primary storage area and it's certainly been a painful experience.
  2. So just to clarify you're basically giving an Admin user full access rights to each users OneDrive for Business area and then adding each area manually on the OneDrive for Business Sync client that is installed on the server? Out of interest how many areas in total are you syncing with the one client? A couple of potential issues I can think of with this set up is if you ever have to perform a repair, I think the client ends up having to repair each synced library. Also you'll probably need a load of free space on the system drive of the server as the OneDrive for Business client typically needs the same storage space used on OneDrive as it does in the local AppData folder that is running the client.
  3. The question is though @Michael are you using it with actual user data at this stage or purely a few files for testing? I've found as soon as you move any significant amount of user data to it you start to run into problems, both with unsupported characters in file names and path lengths and then getting the forever syncing issues with some files in sync and others not. The beginning of this video pretty much sums it up. Looking forward to the new sync client, but I can't believe they are not supporting Windows 8.1 (not everyone is going to roll out Windows 10 straight away, especially if they have just recently deployed Windows 8.1).
  4. If you have a relatively sizeable number of users to roll this out to, my recommendation would be to avoid using the OneDrive for Business sync client. It's certainly improved significantly over the last few months with the latest updates for it but we still find it quite hit and miss with syncing, conflicts and needing to repair it quite often etc. If you're users are using Internet Explorer to browse the web version of SharePoint sites and/or their OneDrive for Business areas they can open the document libraries in Windows Explorer via the Library tab which we've found to be more reliable but is obviously more sensitive to the Internet connection. I believe MS are due to update the OneDrive for Business sync client at some point this year to use the consumer OneDrive sync engine which will supposedly make it more reliable/consistent to use and I think enable features such as selective sync.
  5. 5130 would get my vote, they run the same Comware OS as your 5820 core. We run 5130's at a number of sites and they seem like very good switches.
  6. I created a package in the end in SCCM 2012 with a batch file containing all the MSIEXEC commands below so all the different components are installed. msiexec /i "Driver64\ActivDriver x64.msi" /q ALLUSERS=1 addlocal=all msiexec /i "ActivInspirev2\ActivInspire.msi" transforms="Inspire\ActivInspire_v1.mst" /q ALLUSERS=1 msiexec /i "CoreResv1\ActivInspireCoreRes.msi" /q ALLUSERS=1 msiexec /i "ActivInspire Help v2\ActivInspireHelp.msi" /q ALLUSERS=1 msiexec /i "HWRResv1\ActivInspireHWRRes.msi" /q ALLUSERS=1
  7. Could it be an issue with Spanning Tree? Is there a command on the Extreme core switches where you can check STP History to see if there has been any topology changes when the network goes down? And just check the logbuffer in general on the core switches to see if they point to anything obvious.
  8. Do you have SMART Board software installed? It might be the SMART Ink add-on in Word causing this. I've found either disabling the add-on resolves this, also just changing the focus away from Word and going back to it gets it going again - eg minimise and maximise it again.
  9. Seems OK here, we have Office 2013 with SP1 (from VLSC) deployed as part of our OSD task sequence in SCCM and it seems to be activating via KMS fine. We did have an issue where Lync 2013 and OneDrive for Business are not installed, which needed an updated custom MSP file using a new version of OCT. More info here - http://blogs.technet.com/b/odsupport/archive/2014/03/21/lync-2013-and-onedrive-for-business-are-not-installed-when-installing-office-2013-with-service-pack-1.aspx
  10. Yep this is exactly my thoughts too, otherwise it looks great.
  11. Can't do PIN without TPM in BitLocker and I'm fairly sure the Bitlocker key file that will be on SD card could be used to unlock the laptop hdd by connecting it to another computer with Bitlocker available or by running WinPE and using the bde-manage commands. I agree with Arthur and the smaller usb drives on a keyring is possibly the way to go or look at Windows 8 which I believe you can set a password on boot rather than using usb drives to unlock drive on boot for laptops without TPM.
  12. Had a similar issue to this before when the academic year was set/changed. After running the database re-index patch it ran through a lot faster the next time.
  13. Bump - closes today!
  14. Essentially this is my previous job up for grabs as I'm now working for the Trust. More info here
  15. Have the students got write access to that folder where they are opening the file from? We had a similar issue and I put it down to office getting confused with multiple computers trying to create a temporary word file at the same time as it does that by default when a file is opened. Which is why you probably had no issues with the other file types you tried. Making the folder/word doc read only solved the issue for us.
  16. You could try running SimsApplicationSetup.exe from a GPO startup script to save doing it manually. Try the following (may need to adjust the SIMSDirectory bit): simsapplicationsetup.exe /S {QuietMode} {NoServerApps} [sIMSDirectory]="S:\SIMS"
  17. +1. I would like the option to use Impero purely as a classroom management and support tool and be able to choose not to have things such as the print, power and patch management to save money.
  18. We're you actually having any noticeable performance issues prior to changing the resources allocated to the VM?
  19. +1 & also if students access the software from their personal devices eg Office/Windows via RDS.
  20. Out of interest for the people using TrueCrypt for full disk encryption, how do you manage the passwords for the laptops? Do you just assign a password for each laptop or do you let the staff pick their own? As I believe a standard user can't change the boot up password.
  21. That's not true. No TPM, no pin option with Bitlocker. If you're thinking of deploying Windows 8, the password option is well worth a look for devices without TPM. I believe it allows standard users to change the Bitlocker boot password with the key benefit of the encryption keys being stored in AD in case you need to preform any recovery etc.
  22. One other option is to use usb startup keys with the laptops without TPM or use Windows 8 which allows you to use password on startup as well as the usb startup option in Windows 7 for laptops without TPM.
  23. Overnet Data are worth a look.
  24. Further to this Windows 8 allows for a user password on boot method for devices without TPM rather than the only option being the USB startup key method with Windows 7. Plus I believe standard users can change the TPM pin & the new user password method, where as with Windows 7 they had to be an administrator user.
  25. Sound like it's the issue mentioned here - http://www.edugeek.net/forums/smoothwall-direct-support/113467-block-page-not-displaying.html#post970598 You could run the command I've mentioned in the thread but might be worth checking with Smoothwall themselves beforehand.
