Density is great... What about speed?

 

We are always going to be limited to ~15k given the speed of sound and the problems that breaking the speed of sound inside a hard drive.

 

HDD maybe the way for pure capacity but speed is going to have to be in SSD/other tech region.

 

Having said that with even greater data density you could read more data in a smaller amount of space (and so be slightly faster).

Exactly, the higher the density the faster read/writes are. As to how much in practice, it's difficult to say. I suppose there are many factors involved.

The biggest problem breaking the 15k rpm barrier is imperfections in the discs that cause the disc to be imbalanced compared to the material it's made out of. Most motors can compensate for this for the minute differences, but at those speeds the stuff that does it just can't compensate quick enough.
