m25man Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Out of the blue today we get emails from the CEO of Sonicwall making this announcement. I guess I shouldnt be that surprised Dell have an iron in every fire so why not security appliances. Not quite sure where this will go over the next few years but expansion through aquisition is always an inevitable outcome of recession. Where will they stop.

I was thinking this earlier - they are basically building an end to end solutions provider out of what was a box seller. They seem to be doing a pretty good job of it so far, but they need to bring in some serious clout if they're going to compete with IBM and HP on their home ground.

They really need to up their game... getting left behind by the likes of Palo Alto and the application-level firewalls at the moment

Any reason as to why? I recently got one and so far can't fault it - only time it broke was when I setup routes wrong then couldn't talk to it!

Various reasons that would bring us totally off topic (main one being we spent £65 on TMG + £350/yr for web filtering it works and I don’t want to spend any more than that)

(Support officially ended a while ago but it's still tickin') Yep I think for VPN/Remote Access they are just going to be using the tools in Windows Server (especially now that Direct Access looks like it can work behind NATs). I would hope that they come up with something else for web filtering but I'm not holding my breath.
