localzuk Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I should ban myself from using air transport... It is just far too easy to make money, but then again, as I joined when so much land had been taken up already, there was very little else to do.

Yer was surprised you even got enough room for an airport
localzuk Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Yer was surprised you even got enough room for an airport Towards the end, I just started making my own islands around the edge, lol. This map, I've started badly! Overspent and now trying to recover.
matt40k Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 This map, I've started badly! Overspent and now trying to recover. Failed Co - rofl!!
localzuk Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Failed Co - rofl!! Yeah, I kinda forgot that I only start with 100k, and started planning a cloverleaf interchange, pre-signalled stations etc... and ran out of money half way through... lol
petay87 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I have done the same thing today. I started a monorail but ran out of money to finish it and I'm now making a loss on my single train that goes back and forth rather than doing a loop......... Self Fail!
localzuk Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Woo, finally hit 1000 points in the performance rating
matt40k Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 Yes :'( My fault. Will post more in a bit...
localzuk Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Yes :'( My fault. Will post more in a bit... Sounds bad. Hope all is ok!
matt40k Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 Was trying to setup IPv6 and managed to mess it up, well I assume it was me, basically I could SSH into it, but other services like http and openttd wasn't working. wget wasn't downloading anything, addresses were being resolved, but it wasn't able to route, the routing table looked ok to me, well it hadn't changed! Disabling IPv6 didn't resolve it, disabling PF resolved it, but the firewall hadn't changed, well it had and I changed it back, so that was weird. I ain't running it without a firewall. It was build from a snapshot, so I just upgraded, which made it more fudgetastic, so just reinstalled. All hail the almighty OpenBSD boot loader and Mythic Beasts console server, I am totally amazed how well the OpenBSD boot loader works, it's solid as a rock and pretty much indestructible, a few points I thought I was going to have to ask them to reimage the flash card for me. Anyway, rebuilt is done, just got to reinstall openttd and config - few changes to pf since the last build so will see how it goes. I am kind of thinking of still going over to debian tho...
localzuk Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Ah well, we all wreck or dedicated boxes at times! Lol. One thought - maybe set 'max_aircraft = 0' in the new OpenTTD? That way, it becomes much more of a challenge.
matt40k Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 One thought - maybe set 'max_aircraft = 0' in the new OpenTTD? That way, it becomes much more of a challenge. LOL, I was thinking of limiting it to say 5 aircraft, so at least you can get a few pennies to get your train routes started
localzuk Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 LOL, I was thinking of limiting it to say 5 aircraft, so at least you can get a few pennies to get your train routes started Lol, that might work... My 200+ was a bit excessive. It did get my company value up to £48bn+ though
matt40k Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 Yer, glad I owned 75% of your company early on
sted Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 never been that bothered about planes iu find it more fun just building long rail lines and having to work round problems but then i tend to play 1 player and often no ai either and atm the ai i do have have more cash than me lol
Achandler Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I make undergound rails when I use to play it, then the cities coudl expenda better and the countryside wasn't ruined by my tracks, the most expensive tunnel I was was about 100million! You didn't seen the train for about a minute, it was a huge express traing that did two stops, 60 carriages long!

The problem I find with long tunnels is you can only have one train passing through at any time so you always end up with a backlog of trains waiting at the entrance. Unless I've missed something obvious lol. Dan
Achandler Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 No you've not, this tunnel was simply a project to join the two biggest cities on each side of the map. I did once have multiple tunnels with signals on them but for some reason trains tend not to wait at signals at the end of tunnels, they turn around and mess about, whereas on normal tracks these problems don't exist.

Unless I've missed something obvious lol. Dan and you end up with tunnels at all different levels. It would also be nice to be able to tunnel below a river
localzuk Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 (edited) Whoever you are, Stagecoach Sicko... I hate you Edit: Yeah, serious though, that's bad form. Sabotaging a new player by preventing their only transport options due to your having lots of money and them starting out by buying exclusive transport rights in the only towns they build in, that's not fun. pcstru Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 You are quite right and ... I felt deeply ... the shame [*1] ... about half an hour after I stopped laughing! [*1] for small values of deeply and shame. No seriously, you are right, I've been a naughty boy and I'm sending myself off to bed. And from now on, I'm just going to help people. Like some rich ... benevolent ... but slightly sick ... b*sta*d.
