Well, I have finally got my dedicated box sorted so thought I'd slap an OpenTTD server on it.

 

Its up at dedi.localzuk.com password eg2013

 

I've created a 2048x2048 map to start, as the server is blazingly fast so not seeing any download issues etc... (Even on my terrible download speeds at home).

 

I've limited to 10 aircraft and it currently isn't set to restart or anything similar.

 

I have enabled the 'pause unless 1 player on' function too, so that it actually requires someone to be on for things to progress.

 

Its running on an i7 980x with 2x SSDs in RAID 1 with a 1Gbps net connection, so should be pretty snappy!

 

Also, as much use as it may be to people, its also IPv6 compatible.

Cool, will have a look at this later. I remember spending hours on TTD when it first came out!

I'd recommend lowering the frequency of the autosave, as it seems to lock things up for a few seconds, and having that happen every minute or so gets a little irritating.

Thanks! I keep getting 'connection lost' errors during the map download process, is that likely to be something my end or yours?

Hmm... I've only seen that due to map size before. I'll take a look. Basically, the server is timing out part way through download. I'll adjust timeouts.

 

EDIT: I've adjusted them to sort that issue.

Still issues. I did manage a connection but only once. I'd suggest a smaller map. 2048x2048 is huge.

Weird. The timeouts hadn't saved. Must've done something odd. That size map is only 6.1Mb in size, so it should download reasonably well.

 

I find that smaller maps fill far too quickly. The 512x512 map filled in about a day or so for example. Not to mention, this sort of map might encourage co-op as well as competition.

 

If its still not working right now, I'll shrink down to 1024x1024.

Probably someone who logged in once, and didn't actually do anything. The server auto-trims them to keep things tidy.

Ah, I'll need to tweak the rules then - autoclean has stock values. 36 months of no activity for a protected company, 12 months for an unprotected one. I'll double them both.

 

EDIT: Done. So companies will now be deleted after 7 ingame years if they're protected, and 2 years if they're unprotected.

Just had to delete 15 mins of my workings, as the server decided to delete someone's company again. I've now turned off autoclean. So, old companies will hang around unless I delete them manually.

It might have been mine (yellow). I went on for a bit then got called away to do something and haven't been on since.

Were you on about half an hour ago? If so, that was your company. Its back and safe now.

 

However, there are only yours and my companies now.
