Due to a severe lack of space I am looking at setting up some virtual machines at home for me to play around with. However I am not sure whether to use VM Ware Server or Virtual PC. The machine that will be running it is my main box which has the following specs:

P4 3.0 GHz

2 GB PC4200 RAM

1*120 SATA Drive

1*320 SATA Drive

Windows XP Pro (was running Vista Ultimate but had some problems)

Should I look at increasing the RAM at some point as at present is consists of 4*512 sticks and the board will handle 4 gig.

there are some restrictions within xp I believe where you can't see past the firth 3.2 to 3.5Gb of memory and so 4Gb won't help you. I think xp 64bit was sposed to get past this but I can't remember where I read this

Have downloaded and installed VM Ware server over theweekend and I have to say it beats Virtual PC hands down.

But surely the MS equivelent of VM Ware Server is Virtual Server, and not Virtual PC? Out of VPC and VmWare yes, VMWare does win hands down.

Virtual Server is a decent product though. I actually prefer it to VMWare Server, but thats mostly because Ive been using it a while and have got used to it

Yeh, I read a few reviews a while ago and VMWare wh00ped VirtualPC/Server.

Although I think it also said that programming and testing was better on VirtualPC as the guy could write a program on the host then press a few buttons to run it on the virtual pc's without having to share folders and stuff.

Cheers
