Hey guys, has anyone come accross "windows could not finish configuring the system" after using MDT2010 to deploy a windows 7 reference computer, install your own apps, sysprep and pull back to server. Add image back to MDT and deploy out this image. When windows starts for the first time (with the BLUE background) it comes up with that message at the setup is starting services stage. Any ideas please? It's Windows 7 Professional x64 Thanks

TimJing - would you be so kind as to enlighten me on how you are deploying the new educator gallery as i'm still having issues. The gallery admin msi simply goes off to their website and downloads the whole thing per machine - which is obviously unacceptable and SMART's support people have told me to write a script that will run the command lines for installation by msiexe (we use group policy to push out installs), which won't support upgrading at a later date. Ta

there are some restrictions within xp I believe where you can't see past the firth 3.2 to 3.5Gb of memory and so 4Gb won't help you. I think xp 64bit was sposed to get past this but I can't remember where I read this

Guys, I never said it was unlimited I simply stated that we do not believe in imposing a limit. We do of cause have a fair usage policy, and would be stupid if we didn't, but it's only there incase someone was seriously abusing. It's there to protect the majority of users from those few that seek to simply abuse and we've never had to impose it yet. Please keep the comments comming as anything I read, good and bad helps us shape the way we run our services.

in response to that plexer, we are hosted in the uk and will offer to work with yourselves to provide services that we dont currently offer when requested. Bluehost (although a large one) do have a bandwidth limit, which we don't believe in and as such don't impose one. We also offer a choice between Windows hosting and Linux hosting with the option to change at any time. All I'd like to say is that we are realistic here and know that there are many options for web hosting available, some of which have hidden limits etc. We are not trying to say that we are better than everybody else out there, as at the end of the day stuff like that doesn't really play a large part when people make hosting descisions, however we are out there and if anyone would like to try a package, please contact us.

Went to edugeek stand at BETT, couldn't believe you guys got someone flown in from US for ya to help with Moodle :-) That must have been kewl when u first found out. Just goes to show what a HUGE impact you have now in the IT industry! Sounds from reading about on the site like you've done really really well out of it all, and can I just say that i'm proud to be a member here and the information available on the site is amasing (and always helpfull) so thanks for making that possible too! Did any of you guys see the Never Winter Nights stand and there educational addon's for it ? Just wonderd what your thoughts were on this, or if any of you already use it. Also did anyone catch Microsoft's Vista talk about teachers and vista (can't remember the exact name). I missed it and wondered if anyone could give me a quick idea of anything usefull that came up so i can pass this on to the teachers in the schools i support. cotink - actaully, just checked and you are quite right about 9 and 10 - although I could of swarn that I run v9 in one of my schools and its definatly an enterprise edition that i'm running - must check. V8 though is an enterprise product as V2003 is the home equivilant to that.

CONTINK - I think u may have that backwards m8 - ghost with a date, (i.e.2003) after it is a standalone package (mostly used for home pc's) with 1 licence. Ghost with a number (i.e.8 or 9 etc) or now rebranded to be called ghost solution suite is the enterprise deployment package which sits on your server and you can pull and push images out via DOS, PXE boot or whatever you method. Dont forget you need 1 licence PER IMAGE that you have deployed.

yep, I have a school with 16 of the SX270's and have now had 6or so go in the past 6 weeks, all with the same 3 pacitors leaking and the X on the top sticking up instead of being flat. I spoke to a Dell manager today and was told that dDell were aware of the problem and if you ask your account manager about it they should be able to put a "special note on the order(s) with these machines on them so that the motherboards will still be replaced even after the warrenty runs out (I was told up untill Jan 2008). They will NOT proactivly replace them, but instead the manager gave me his email address and told me to email him with the serial (can't think of the name dell use ) and he will sort it all out for me at dell's end instead of me having to waste 45 mins on the phone to them each week. So I would suggest speaking to a manager where possible. Hope you get yours sorted.

I actually tried this last night and all is working now :-) and i'm a happy chappy once again :-) Thanks for the tip ChrisH - not sure where I got it from to put it inside i386, but it was definatly from a guide somewhere on the net ;-p Cheers for the help :-)

ok this post has 2 seperate parts/questions to it and any thoughts/ideas would be welcome! The autologin seems to work ok for me, however in the .sif file for the ripprepped image I have the following: [GuiRunOnce] Command0="gpupdate /force /boot" Command1="shutdown /r /f /t" I only added the 2nd command to shutdown because the 1st didnt work. When the pc has finished ris'ing it auto logs on as the admin 1 time, during this logon the commands above are processed and I see the 2 CMD windows popup and disappear but then the desktop comes on and it just sits there and doesn't reboot. The only thing I can see that is going on during this is sophos autoinstall. However if I click shutdown from the start menu or run the shutdown command above manually, it shuts down fine, so I dont think Sophos is the problem. (havent tried without it yet). Any ideas y these commands dont work ? 2nd Q is i'm trying to get the drivers for the computers to copy over the c: and install. I have created the $oem$ and $1 folders and put the drivers in as the documentation I have says to do (found them in readme file that came with intel chipset drivers and instructions are specific for RIS) but at the end of the ris the drivers folder within $1 is not on c: and the drivers have not installed. I have got the OEMpreinstall=yes in the .sif file and have set the paths in the sif file - is there anything else I need to do? Ideas on a postcard to.... Thanks, I was after those lines

have just found this in windows help though: Load and unload device driversDescription This user right determines which users can dynamically load and unload device drivers or other code in to kernel mode. This user right does not apply to Plug and Play device drivers. The camera is usb and therefore PnP :-( so back to the drawing board I think

Geoff, thanks for your prompt reply, but i'm still getting the "you must be a member of the local administrators group to install hardware on this computer" message popping up. This is after adding the staff group to the load and unload device drivers and doing a gpupdate /force and rebooting after. Any more ideas mate ?

Ok guys, this is one of thoses "How do you do it?" questions.... Situation is that I need a simple way to enable teachers and/or pupils to install USB hardware (the main thing is the digital blue cameras). At present I have to install the software on each pc (it breaks if I send it over network) and the plug the camera into each usb port on the pc and let it install. The drivers are not signed and I have already changed my group policy "Unsigned driver installation behaviour" to silent, but this has had no effect. have any of you had this issue ? Not only with these cameras but with any usb devices. If so how did you fix it ?? Thanks for reading...
