[android] Motorola Xoom 2 - Internet proxy?

Hi folks,

 

We've bought a Xoom 2 to trial some programming software.

 

I have just discovered though that you cannot enter an Internet proxy, which we are forced to use by the CC.

 

I'm a complete novice to Android. Is there any way around this?

OK, figured it out. In Wi-fi settings, hold and press on the actual SSID you want to edit, then choose modify. You can then enter a proxy there and save it, although it warns this cannot be used by apps.

 

Curiously it only seems to save the settings if the SSID is connected.

If it's anything like my galaxy tab (android 3.2 so it should be the same) you can put the proxy details in when you originally connect to the wifi too.

Various replies in Google suggested it was an app only solution, but they're probably referring to it being used for apps as well.

 

I wonder if ICS improves upon the built-in functionality? Although that's apparently Q3 for the Xoom 2.

It was app only in 3.0 - apparently added with the 3.1 update. I find that I can't enter proxy exceptions though, it just locks the tablet up. Great stuff :S

Put your exceptions in first... then add your proxy server. Thats how I have got round that issue.

This was bought for the ICT department for some programming activity. It all depends on what level of Internet access they require...

I wonder if the iPad has browser (and app?) level access via a proxy?

ive found apps can work via prox depends on the app iirc say facebook and angry birds do IF you log into the proxy server via a browser first (that may not be an issue if your proxy doesnt require a logon)
