Pupil Help Alert

Hi,

I've been asked to set up a system where pupils can send a message to a particular member of staff if they feel they are being bullied etc.

Ideally the message should include the username automatically so that even if they don't enter any text the sender is recorded.

 

We use OWA so I think mailto is out of the question, I haven't found a reliable way to make that work and mandatory profiles.

 

Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

Why can't they just compose an email as normal...?

 

Other than that, I can only think of writing a PHP/ASP page that grabs the username via NTLM and generates an email to a selected staff member. Create a shortcut on the desktop, use a cookie to remember who they sent to last, and a big red button for them to click so in three clicks they can fire off an email to their favourite teacher. Might take you a bit of coding, though.

We use an alias of [email protected] and place it prominently on posters around the school. It seems to work (or rather, I can see regular inbox traffic).

 

Ours is a generic "I need help with this" service that ranges from homework issues > child protection.

 

Set up the account alias to "help"? That way they just need to put that in the To: field and start typing?

+1 for this, it is zero cost for us because West Midlands Police (through the school liaison Police Officer) pay for it.

 

I think it costs about £200 per year; I know we've had some good (in a bad way) leads from it.

A simple ContactUs bit of coding with the relevant information you require from the students would probably also work well for little or no cost.
