MbroTech Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 3 Chip DLP was getting a big push at BETT this year. 3D compatability and all that. We have a mix of DLP and LCD at the moment. No filters to clean on DLP and with the recent ones we have had no complaints over quality. Agree the early DLP projectors looked terrible though.

The only issue we have seen in the past fornight is that older Epson projectors use an figure 8 cable for power whilst new projectors from Epson use a 3 pin power. This has meant getting someone in to fit new power cables into our high ceilings (old school building). I'm glad the ceiling mounts didn't need replacing or the cost would have been higher. Other than that the Epson projectors have been excellent and we have standardised on them for the past 5 years. Regards Gareth

IEC (3core cable) to figure 8 (2core cable) = safe to use as figure 8 devices do not require an earth cable (double insulated) figure 8 (2core cable) to IEC (3core cable) = they shouldn't be available because you would effectively be cutting the earth connection on the IEC socket so your equipment is no longer earthed.

A quick google suggests that Panasonic purchased a controlling stake in Sanyo back in 2009 and that they might kill off the Sanyo brand name in April. It's possible that some of their projector models will be killed off if there is a Panasonic equivalent but I doubt that anyone actually knows for sure. Projector models change quite frequently as it stands so it shouldn't have a major impact. The only additional problem you need to watch out for when replacing a Sanyo projector with something different is the lens position because Sanyo put it on the opposite side to almost all other makes so it can potentially increase installation costs because the pole might need moving. We have started using the Casio LED projectors instead of Sanyo and although its early days we are happy with them so far.
