witch Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 The head has just asked me if I know of any good video cameras that would be useable by both teachers and pupils. He is looking for something that has good enough results to put on a website but simple enough for children to use. Not those very 'kiddy' ones Am off to BETT on Sat so will have a look but I just thought I'd ask for personal experiences of such things

Arthur Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 How much are you looking to spend? The GoPro cameras almost indestructable and very simple to operate. Although mainly designed for sports, I don't see any reason why you can use them in the classroom. Some lessons can be pretty extreme IME. Sample Videos: www.youtube.com/user/GoProCamera
Oaktech Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 another +1 for the go pro, they are fab quality, but possibly not great to use hand held due to small size and being designed to be in a housing stuck to something. We have some of these: Veho Website - Products which have proved simple enough for teacher to use, the kids have no problems with the technology!
witch Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 We have some flipcams at my other school and frankly the quality isnt great. The veho ones look nice. I think he is thinking more of adult use with some designated Year 6 children rather than a classful.
m25man Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I quite like the Kodak Playsport, I actually have a Playtouch but I can't recommend it as the touch interface is pants! My son has the Playsport which is waterproof and shockproof much better build quality than the touch. These things are on a par with the Flip which as far as I know we're by Cisco/Linksys and are no longer being produced.

plexer Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Just unboxed one of these kodak cameras so I can charge it up and bring it to BETT with me and I have to say the package deal is good. Nice neoprene lowepro case with carabiner to keep it safe, the mini bendy legged tripod and 4gb SD to get you started. The camera has an inbuilt battery which charges from the supplied or indeed any other micro usb cable and a mains to usb adaptor is also included. The camera features and hdmi output and the required mini (micro) hdmi to hdmi cable is supplied in the box as well as set of composite out leads as well. For the price it's a cracking deal. Ben

witch Posted June 19, 2012 Author Posted June 19, 2012 Reviving an old thread in the hope of some more advice...The head went for the Kodak Playsports and the staff are pleased with them...BUT They output in MP4 which cannot be used in movie maker. So, does anyone know of some free editing software that would do the job? I know that they could convert the files but the teachers want to avoid that sort of faffing about

Ah - that's what I thought - but NOTHING came with the camera! I didnt have any input in the purchasing so I cannot confirm this but the person who did is quite savvy and she kept a box with the bits and pieces in it that come with these things - but no software!
