Yes but who plagarised who? One of the things with programming is that sometimes the code from 2 people can end up being identical.

@localzuk: True, but I guess it depends on the complexity of what they are trying to achieve. I guess if it was something really simple then there is a potential for code to be pretty identical but if its not really simple then surely at most you would have elements similar but not identical.

I was at Gove's speech and have a video of most of it ... and I did try to doorstep him on his way out of BETT to ask him a question about procurement / advice / child protection but his people moved him on ... I didn't even have my face paint on!

 

I have also been speaking with a few teachers, SLT, NMs and suppliers over the last few days (including some involved in Open Source, Computing at School, etc) and will put up a report after BETT.

 

There are a few key points though for the support staff in schools that seem pretty clear but a lot which could be misconstrued. The best things is to work with those already actively involved in both CS and exciting ICT lessons to try to make sure your schools are also doing good things. It is not about being perceived as a blocker, but someone who gets things done and makes things work ... so we could be back to the miracle worker scenario again.

 

Anyway ... I'll see what other comments come up over the next 2 days as well. It will also to put a bit of daylight between the speech and careful thought about what it means and the implications of it.

At my place since taking IT inhouse we have started doing ICT Club which we have started doing programming and webdesign inconjunction with the ICT Teachers. I have been asked to start putting some input in but i'm too busy this academic year. Next year I will probably teach PC repair and some basic networking like that did when I was at college 10 years ago. I did do a motherboard swap infront of a group of students one lunchtime who really enjoyed it and their begging me to teach them the 7 layer OSI model.

Are the plans for Computer Science basically ripped from our good old friends in the USofA? Curriki Basically an open source collaboration and curriculum developed by schools and universities.
