jamiesev Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Hi, Our ICT Teachers want to start teaching Pascal programming from January. I have tried Free Pascal, sadly without much success, do any of you know of a good compiler?

Butters Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I'd assume it would be because the ICT teacher involved knows PASCAL. It's actually good they are willing to teach any programming but agreed they should probably try to teach something a bit more mainstream. The VB.net express recommendation is a pretty good one as it's fairly simple. There's also a tonne of school specific languages for basics fundamentals like if statements and conditions.

Hedghog Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I know its ancient I was taught it in the 1980s - I'll give one thing it teaches you to be accurate with your programming syntax because it only reports an error when it reaches a logical inconsistancy either 1 line after the problem or anything up to 100 depending on the error.

That would teach em, I guess When I was at university ~13 years back, they were just changing from teaching pascal to teaching C++. It's not an awful language to learn on... but I'd say not ideal either. Still, I'd have it over "learning spreadsheets" any day, and I think this teacher is to be commended for at least trying to do something good
