Hey All,

Lets see if anyone can help me out here. What I have is Server 2008r2 as my primary server, along with XP and Window7 client computers on a domain. I have enabled Folder Redirection and it works flawlessly on same platform machines. So files i save on a XP Platform show up with no problem on another XP machine and same with 7. On the server side of things, when I logon to a XP machine, it creates a folder for the username as told. When i logon to the window 7 machine it creates a new user profile folder adding .V2. I have tried specifying the folder to use and it doesnt seem to work. Does anybody know how to configure folder redirection properly to function with different platforms?

Thank You,

Brandon

This is how I setup Folder Redirection. You can still continue using system managed shares (as you are), but the pattern of redirecting folders is the same.

As for profiles, by design XP will have a profile called profilename and Vista/7 will have a profile called profilename.v2..

Michael,

I've read your post on the file redirection and wanted to ask about your experience with it and Windows 7. Currently I'm doing it with Offline folders and it is not perfect (from everything I've read I'm not the only one). Do you run it with just folder redirection and no offline folders? I did it that way in the XP days and liked it, but figured the Offline folders would be a benefit but they never work as expected. Had my file server go down randomly and everyone's desktop went blank or showed icons grayed out so it really didn't do anything for me. I'm just trying to figure out what is the best for our desktop users and if it should only be Folder Redirection or Folder Redirection/Offline Files. Any recommendation?

Now what do you do for laptop users if you only do Folder Redirection?

Normally I could care less about it, but my users jump from computer to computer on a daily basis so I really want to get this down where it is working for them, but at the same time is working for me and I'm not dealing with issues.

Thanks for you help.

Yes that's correct.

Laptop users also have Folder Redirection (on the domain), but staff can also logon locally (at home) and this works well in practice.

I am having issues with this too, it works fine in XP and also i've got it to work on windows 7 but only when the 'start menu' redirected folder on the server has its OWNER set to a specific user. Will not work if set to Everyone even though it works in xp. Any ideas?
